Last night, we watched Max Puskiss compete in his first contest at the JCS show in St Helens. As always, Max was full of smiles and eager to get started.
In round one, Max came out strong, taking the fight to his opponent and landing some heavy shots that forced him backwards. He worked incredibly hard throughout the round, keeping his opponent on the back foot. However, his eagerness led him to use a lot of energy early on. Towards the end of the round, Max stumbled and received a standing eight count. Despite this, he finished the round strongly but returned to his corner exhausted.
Going into the second round, Max tried to box, but it was a step too far as his energy had been drained. Credit to his opponent, who recognised this and capitalised, leading to the referee stopping the contest midway through the round.
Max should be very proud of himself and can hold his head high. This was a valuable learning experience, particularly in understanding the importance of pacing. He knows where it went wrong and will come back stronger.
Max is already looking forward to stepping back into the ring. He loved the experience and, true to himself, was all smiles throughout. Everyone at Winsford ABC is extremely proud of him, and we’re excited to follow the rest of his boxing journey.
