π£ Focus On... Lymmvale! π£
It's time for another instalment of our Focus On series, and this time we're heading to one of the most historic and iconic waters in Lymm Angling Club's portfolio β Lymmvale.
π From old sand quarry to specimen water...
Lymmvale's story stretches back to the early 1970s, when the club purchased the former sand quarry near Whitegate. At the time the water was highly acidic and considered something of a gamble, but after extensive work to correct the water chemistry, Lymmvale began its transformation into the fishery generations of Lymm anglers have come to know.
Initially used as a trout water, its first coarse fish included golden orfe, followed by tench from the famous Woburn Abbey estate.
Those golden orfe would go on to make Lymmvale famous nationally, culminating in Michael Wilkinson's incredible 8lb 5oz British Record in 2000 β a piece of Lymm AC history that still stands proudly today.
π And there's still plenty to get excited about...
Today, the Vale remains a true specimen water, home to carp over 30lb, tench over 10lb and catfish over 50lb, alongside bream, eels, roach and rudd.
The tench fishing in particular has long been synonymous with Lymmvale, while its carp β including some stunning ghosties β and powerful catfish give anglers plenty of other reasons to keep returning.
πΈ Now we want to see your Lymmvale memories!
The Vale has been part of the club for more than half a century, so we're sure there are plenty of stories hiding in our membership.
Whether it's a big tench from the glory years, one of the Vale's famous carp or cats, an old photograph from decades gone by, your first fish from the water, or simply a great picture from a memorable session β share your Lymmvale photos and memories in the comments below.
We'd particularly love to see some of the older pictures and hear from members who remember how the water has changed over the years!
β Not a member but fancy fishing Lymmvale next year?
