A Cycling club with a more social atmosphere, we are open to all abilities of cyclists, we are predominantly road cycling based, but we all are welcome to join.

✓We Mainly focus on road simply due to the nature of the club and the ability to cover the miles, over time we hope that we can accommodate more cyclists. We set up to bring together those who don't really 'like' the idea of a race orien

tated club TT/Racing etc but just want to have a laugh, a decent ride and a bit of friendly banter!

✓Our 'Main focus': road cycling - with scope to welcome and help all cyclists (MTB, XC, CX) we all have two wheels and should share a mutual respect and love for the sport.

✓To respect and appreciate what amazing routes, tracks and roads we have within such a small distance

✓To create and develop friendships through a mutual hobby

✓To welcome anyone regardless or their abilities, discipline or speed

✓To help members organize smaller rides out with others.

✓Develop ‘Ride Leaders’ who assist, plan and help create routes and rides to be shared online (.gpx files etc)

✓To develop an online 'hub' using social networks for people to chat, make friends, connect and arrange rides with fellow members

✓ To run regular 'Development Rides' (formerly 'beginners rides') to introduce people to cycling, and more so group cycling.

✓ To use social media for positive outcomes and expand our own personal networks for cycling

✓ To enter events in the UK sportive calendar with clubmates and raise money for various good causes. By joining or taking part in club activity you agree to our rules: http://bit.ly/TheRulesBCC

Last weekend saw club members enjoying various types of cycling 'fun'. We had a good turn out at the Andy Mallen Memorial Time Trial hosted by our friends at GS Metro. One particular lunatic followed it up by riding the Fred Whitton sportive the following day, widely regarded as one of the hardest events in the UK.

On the more enjoyable and less competitive end of things, 3 hardy souls went exploring the gravel roads of the region whilst another 10 club members enjoyed a 100km ride including the obligatory cafe stop for cake.

We look forward to welcoming a couple of our most regular club ride attendees back from Portugal this weekend and hearing all about how it was riding the length of the country. Hope you all have a great weekend however you're spending it.

10 riders were out on this morning's chillier than expected 64km brunch ride, with 6 hitting the cafe for that well deserved brunch.

Good luck to everyone riding the North Tyneside Riders 10 mile TT tomorrow, but particularly those riding in Blaydon CC colours. (Beth Bradford, Charlie Toogood, Mark Whaley, Neil Fellows, Chris Ashall, Noel Stoddart, Neil Wilkinson and Hedley Fletcher).

Our friends over at Carlisle Cycling Association are again running their excellent summer crit series on Thursday evenings, catering for all ages and categories over the series. Their first event last week was for youth racing (where they had an excellent turnout) and a Cat 3/4.

This Thursday there is a Cat4 (ideal for first time racers) and a 2/3/4. Entry closes Wednesday evening. The weather is looking dry, sunny and with almost no wind - so why not give it a go.

It was lovely to finally see some sun this year and we even had a few club members breaking out the shorts. Two great rides this weekend, with 9 out on Saturday (including 3 new/guest riders) for our 40 mile brunch ride and then 8 out on Sunday for a 50 mile club run. With the clocks changing soon we're looking forward to longer rides (and extra cafe stops) in the coming weeks.

Next weekend marks the start of the Time Trial season as our friends at Barnesbury CC host a hilly test on the M21 course.

It is also the 2nd round of the Leadout Performance Prissick Spring Classic series (North East Crit League - NECL) down near Middlesbrough.

Good luck to everyone in both events.

A fantastic day of racing today near Middlesbrough, despite some 'seasonal' weather. It was great to see Crit racing return to the North East. Thanks to the organiser and all the volunteers for putting on a brilliant event. See you again in two weeks.

WOW!! What a day!!

It's been a lot of work and some lost sleep to get to this point but after today I'm just so pleased that so many turned out to be part of the re-launch of Adult crit racing in the North East.

Yeah, the weather was crap at times, but "It's the same for everyone" so they say.

Huge thanks to the marshals who stood out in the cold, wind, rain and occasional sunshine: Mark Bailie; Pete Urwin; Helen Whiting; James Jobber & Chris Anderson.

Huge thanks also to the Commissaires Bill & John for the help and advice, and Peter Reynolds on the timing system who had the 48 hours from hell with laptop crashes, mylaps servers being unavailable and a software update which locked the system..... At 9pm last night we didn't have any chip timing......

Apologies that we couldn't hold the Podium for Race 3 but it was clear the first set of results produced had errors, which should now be resolved. Riders who were on the podium in Race 3, please PM so I can make arrangements to get the prizes to you.

Here are the results for all 3 races:

Congratulations to all the North-East riders representing their clubs and the region at the National Hill Climb Champs last weekend in Matlock. Lots of fantastic rides up Bank Road, a challenging 1.1km course averaging 10%. Inevitably most of our attention was on riders flying the Blaydon CC colours.

There were great performances all round. Tim Nichol was our first male rider over the line in exactly 4 minutes, with Seb Bufton and Mark Whaley separated by less than a second only 8 seconds later.

Louise Burnie and Elspeth Chatto also put in strong rides in the women's event, but another standout performance from Sarah Wilkinson saw her finish 3rd Vet and 2nd in age category. Well done Sarah!! You're a great person and a hell of a bike rider.

We were also delighted to see former Blaydon CC member Noel Stoddart (now riding for our friends at Allen Valley Velo) break into the top 100 for the first time with a remarkable 3 minutes and 1 second.

Finally, we couldn't round up the story of the National Hill Climb Champs without adding our huge congratulations to Rachel Galler, the newly crowned National Champion. Rachel's hard work and talent have taken her to spectacular results in recent years culminating in this outstanding achievement and she deserves all the accolades now being bestowed. It has been a pleasure to play a very small part in her journey and we'll always consider Rachel part of the Blaydon CC family whatever colours she is wearing.

Well done to everyone that pinned on a number and all those that went along to support our riders and riders from across the region. We'll see you all out on the road after a good rest.

A great opportunity for the many female riders we have across the North East region to try Crit Racing. No need to pay for a day license, just the entry fee. Why not give it a go on the 7th September.

** BIG NEWS **

Just 4 weeks to the North East Regional Crits Champs and huge thanks to a long time supporter of NE Women's cycling who has offered to cover the Day Licence Fee for the Women's CAT 4 race.

With immediate effect, the cost to enter the Women's CAT 4 race is fixed at £10 for anyone, with or without a BC race licence.

I am also trying to get a Female coach along to the event to help and guide novice riders in the art of cycle racing. Not quite over the line but I hope to confirm in the next 2 weeks as the rider is overseas training.....

Online entry only via British Cycling Events - https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/events/details/323316/North-East-Regional-Criterium-Championships-hosted-by-Tyneside-Vagabonds

Please share in your club and cycling groups.

Thanks. Graham.
