Today we welcomed Crawcrook social to our new home pitch at Clara Vale.

The lads started well and had a fair few chances to take the lead, but it was the away side who took the lead against the run of play. We were quickly level after a John Gallagher corner was helped in by Callum Carter. 1-1

We then went 2-1 down before half time. Despite the result, we felt we were the better side going into the interval.

We levelled through Dan Vandriwala, after Phily Reed put the pressure on the keeper. It fell to Vandy who took his chance well, keeper could only get a hand to it. 2-2.

It was substitute Stephen Young Ridden who was to grab the winner. Phily Reed with a great back post delivery and Stephen was there to head home! 3-2.

Phily Reed was to be sent off after a late challenge with about 10 minutes left but the lads dug deep to keep Crawcrook out and that they did.

Special mention to Liam Oag who pulled off a great save to keep us in the lead late on.

Today we traveled to Washington hub to take on Sunderland first division side Hasting Hill in the first round of the county cup.

With the pitch being 4G, we knew we would be able to play football out from the back and the lads did just that. Constantly finding space and picking each-other out. And it wasn’t long until we capitalised on the possession when James Inness opened the scoring after a short pass from The big man Dan murphy, Inness took it in his stride beat a man and placed with power into the bottom left corner. 1-0

It was soon 2-0 when a floated in corner from Phil Reed was parried over to the back post by the keeper only to find Connor Collins who had peeled away and took it on the chest and right foot first time volley across goal into the bottom right corner.

Dominance paid off again when some good football from John Gallagher, Fin and Inness paid off, Inness then played it into Connor Collins with his back to goal at the edge of the box, turned the defender and blasted into the bottom left corner with his left foot. 3-0.

Have to mention Connor should have had the perfect hat-trick in the first half when a perfect Phil Reed cross. Connor saw the headlines and squandered the chance, with an attempted diving header and rightly got some stick at HT. 3-0 at the interval.

Second half, Connor proved the doubters wrong when a whipped in ball from Inness, Connor leaped and headed into the bottom right corner to complete the perfect hat-trick. Scoring a harder chance than his first 🤣. 4-0

The home side won a penalty and dispatched it, 4-1. And then some great football from the lads ended in Jack Barker being brought down in the area, and it was our turn to score from the spot. Which Fin made no mistake. 5-1.

The last goal was scored by the same man who opened the scoring. Inness who had a quality game (2 goals, 2 assists) and this was the pick of the bunch. Ben Mitchell made a good run through the middle but got Brickwalled by the opposition number 5. Ref played advantage and Inness ran onto it and scored with an audacious lob from 30+ yards. 6-1. FT.

A great footballing display from the lads and a solid win to progress into the next round. Onto next week for the first game of the new season.

Today we welcomed Mickley Social to Winlaton in the blazing sun ☀️ for our 3rd pre-season friendly.

The game started and we dominated from the off and took and early lead when Connor Collins headed a ball on that the away side defender then headed over his keeper into his own net. 1-0

It was soon 2-0 when Vandy bombed down the right hand side and squared the ball to Connor Collins who made no mistake and placed it into the top right corner. 2-0

Not long after a sublime finish from Dan Armstrong outside the box placed into the top right corner made it 3-0. Soon after Callum Carter played a quality ball over the top for James Inness to run onto and tuck away nicely into the bottom left corner. 4-0. HT

Second half commenced and it was Connor Collins who made it 5 after Joe Gardner played a great ball into Connor’s feet who turned between 2 defenders and rounded the keeper and slotted home. 5-0.

We conceded a penalty which was dispatched well by the away side. 5-1. It was soon 6-1 when Daryl Scott had a shot saved only for Jack Barker to finish the rebound.

The away side got another conciliation to make it 6-2. Only for James inness to grab his second of the game with another tidy finish to the bottom left corner. 7-2

Last five/ten minutes we played with 10 men due to injuries and Inness nearly got his hat-trick but his shot was saved which fell into the path of Connor Collins to grab his hat-trick instead. 8-2. Mickley scored with the last kick of the game 8-3.

Another good run out for the boys, especially in the heat. Was nice to get back to back wins.

🥇MOTM- Jordan Sawyers🥇

Today we travelled to Burnopfield to take on Consett leagues Sun inn in our second pre-season friendly.

The game started end to end but as the game progressed we started to dominate the possession and the chances came. The first goal came from a Jordan Sawyers run and a great cut back cross, which found Connor Collins at the edge of the area who caught it on the volley with a tidy side foot finish into the bottom right corner. 1-0

The cannon doubled the lead when Joe Gardner played a great ball over the top for Connor to flick onto Finlay to run onto, Fin beat 2 men but was fouled in the box by the 3rd man. Fin stepped up and dispatched the penalty into the bottom left corner. 2-0.

The sun brought one back with a tidy finish just before the half time whistle. 2-1. HT.

Second half we came out a little slow and the sun came back into the game, they took advantage of that when they equalised with another good finish. 2-2.

The lads stepped it up and it paid off when Jack Barker was played through by Fin and Jack made no mistake, opened up the body and placed it into the right corner. 3-2.

Game was put to bed when Liam Thear was brought down in the area after some tidy footwork. Up steps Dale/Ralf McConnell who opened up the body and blasted it into the top right corner. 4-2.

Another good test for the lads. All the best to the sun for the coming season.
