“You’ll never be able to do that again.”
There was a time when doctors and surgeons would have told Sally that movements like this were impossible.
Sally has had multiple surgeries on her shoulders.
And yet here she is… doing assisted pull-ups. 💪
Is it a full bodyweight pull-up?
No.
Does that matter?
Not one bit.
Because when you've lived with pain, injuries, surgeries or limitations for years, progress isn't about comparing yourself to someone else.
It's about asking:
“What can I do today that I couldn't do before?”
For Sally, being able to perform this movement at all is nothing short of a miracle.
And it's not because we found some magic exercise.
It's because of consistency, patience and the right approach to training.
The same principle applies to chronic back pain.
You don't necessarily need to stop moving.
You don't need to be afraid of exercise.
And you certainly don't need to accept that being in pain means you can never get stronger, fitter or more capable again.
Sometimes the goal isn't to completely eliminate every sensation of pain.
The goal is to understand your body, build capacity, manage your symptoms and gradually give yourself the confidence to do more.
That's what pain-free performance is about.
Training smarter, not simply harder.
If you're between 45–65 and you've been dealing with lower back pain for months or even years, I want you to know this:
Your current limitations don't have to define what you're capable of in the future.
👇 COMMENT “BACK” below if chronic back pain is currently stopping you from doing things you want to do.
I'll send you some information on how I approach training for people dealing with persistent pain.
And if you know someone who's convinced that their best days are behind them…
TAG THEM IN THIS POST.
Because sometimes people don't need another painkiller, another quick fix or another generic exercise programme.
They just need someone to show them that progress is still possible.

🔥 Stop Letting Imbalances Hold You Back 🔥

Most people think the answer is to keep adding more weight to the bar…

But sometimes, the fastest way to get stronger is to challenge your body differently.

The B-stance squat is one of my favourite exercises for building strength, improving stability, and ironing out left-to-right imbalances.

Unlike a regular squat, the B-stance shifts more of the workload onto one leg while still giving you enough support to stay stable. That means you can:
✅ Build single-leg strength.
✅ Improve hip and ankle stability.
✅ Reduce strength differences between each side.
✅ Create better movement patterns that carry over into everyday life and sport.

And here’s where it gets even better…

We’re using a Safety Squat Bar instead of a conventional barbell.

The Safety Squat Bar keeps your hands and shoulders in a much more comfortable position, making it an excellent choice if you have shoulder pain, limited mobility, or simply want to train hard without unnecessary stress.

Because the load sits more evenly around your upper body, many people find it more comfortable through the spine while still allowing them to squat effectively. It also naturally encourages you to stay more upright while demanding plenty of work from your posterior chain.

With the B-stance setup, you’ll feel a huge challenge through the glutes and hamstrings, often more than with a conventional bilateral squat, while also developing the balance and control that standard squats can miss.

Strength isn’t just about lifting heavier.

It’s about moving better, feeling stronger, and building a body that performs for years to come.

Whether you’re 20 or 60, exercises like this can help you become stronger, more stable, and more resilient.

👇 Have you ever tried B-stance squats with a Safety Squat Bar?

Shoulder pain doesn’t always mean you need to stop training… it usually means you need to train smarter. 💪

One of my favourite exercises for building strong, healthy, pain-resistant shoulders is banded shoulder sweeps on a seal row bench.

Why?

Because you don’t need to throw around heavy weights to build resilient shoulders.

Sometimes the biggest improvements come from strengthening the muscles that most people ignore:
✅ Rear delts
✅ Rotator cuff
✅ Mid traps
✅ Rhomboids
✅ Other stabiliser muscles

These muscles are what keep your shoulders moving well, improve posture, reduce pain, and even help create that 3D shoulder look everyone wants.

That’s exactly what Triple H discovered when he started working with strength coach Joe DeFranco.

Joe completely changed the way Triple H trained after years of shoulder injuries. Instead of chasing heavier weights, they spent months focusing on his external rotators, rear delts, mid traps, rhomboids and band work. Joe has explained that these “less sexy” exercises actually made Triple H’s upper back and shoulders more muscular, while also making his shoulders healthier and allowing him to lift heavy again pain-free. Triple H has also spoken about how his shoulders actually got bigger and healthier once he stopped trying to lift heavy all the time.

That’s the difference between training your ego…

…and training for longevity.

If you’re between 30-60 and you’ve been living with shoulder pain, don’t accept it as “just getting older.”

You can build stronger shoulders.
You can move without pain.
You can get back to enjoying training again.

That’s exactly what I help people do through my online coaching using pain-free performance principles and progressive strength training.

CLIENT SPOTLIGHT: Sally’s Incredible Journey 💪

People often think that pain means they have to stop training.

Sally is living proof that isn’t true.

When Sally first came to me, she had some major challenges to overcome. She has a Bailey’s joint replacement in one shoulder and a reverse shoulder replacement in the other. Strength training seemed impossible, and even the smallest exercises were a struggle.

When we started, Sally couldn’t press a 1.25kg weight using a small yellow resistance band with one arm. She actually had to use her other hand to help lift the weight just to complete a single repetition.

Fast forward to today…

She’s now pressing an earthquake bar with that same weight hanging from both sides without any assistance. 💥

That isn’t luck.
That isn’t talent.

That’s consistent, pain-free training, building strength the right way, and trusting the process.

This is exactly why I coach the way I do.

It’s not about lifting the heaviest weights.
It’s about building a body that’s stronger, more resilient, and capable of doing the things you love—without pain holding you back.

If you’ve been told you’re “too old,” “too broken,” or that you’ll just have to live with pain…

I’m here to tell you there’s another way.

📩 DM me “CHANGE4LIFE” and I’ll show you how my online coaching can help you become stronger, move better, reduce pain, and completely change your life.

Your journey doesn’t have to end because of pain.

It can start today. 👊
