Reflections from my friend and true yoga guru.....David Michel. Thank you to him for these true and beautiful words.
Our human bodies are not justly idealised by any one randomly determined height, weight, shape or form. Our own body, with all its distinguishing characteristics, is a far truer expression of a 'perfect' body than anything society could invent. Parameters for this discussion are personal. The uniqueness of our body is design perfection.
It is no mistake that I have never included images of bodies and postures in my course material. We are living, we are diverse, and individuality is a far more honest version of a 'perfect' human body than a picture in an anatomy book. That picture is literally 'no body'. No body, literally no body, is a standard/average/perfect/ideal body. The concept of standard/average/perfect/ideal is totally unnecessary and unhelpful, because it simply does not exist. Using that body as a mirror, reduces our worth right down to a reflection of a baseless ideal that 'no body' actually represents.
