Shoulder pain when lifting your arm out to the side or rotating it back? 🤔
Recently I’ve been dealing with some shoulder discomfort during abduction and external rotation.
One thing I’ve been reminded of is that pain isn’t always caused by damage. Often, it’s the result of how well the shoulder is moving, loading, and coordinating with the surrounding muscles.
When muscles and connective tissues become stiff or restricted, they can alter shoulder mechanics and reduce the available space for tendons to move comfortably. This may contribute to irritation and pain in some people. Research now views many shoulder pain conditions as a combination of mobility restrictions, strength deficits, movement patterns, and training load rather than simply something being pinched.
✅ Move your joints through their available range
✅ Build strength throughout that range
✅ Maintain good shoulder and scapular control
✅ Gradually expose your body to the demands you place on it
Research consistently shows maintaining adequate range of motion and strength helps the shoulder move efficiently, perform daily and sporting tasks more effectively, and may reduce injury risk.
