A strong start to pre season with a friendly against Okehampton on a warm sunny morning. The boys got off to a great start with an early goal and never looked back, playing with a high intensity and work rate throughout. Final score 8-0 with Ollie W, Archie 4, George, Igor and Ollie J getting the goals. Strong club debuts from Archie, Ben and Zac whilst also welcoming Adam M back too! Lots of competition for places with a few also missing yesterday! Training tonight 6.30pm at Magelake!

The Culm Sampford United Youth Football Club end of season presentation was held last night to round off the boys first year of under 18’s football! Quite a few unable to attend due to holidays and work but good to see the rest of the lads together!

Overall the lads had a great first season, especially in the cups reaching the semi final of both the league and the Devon FA Cup!

This seasons awards were

Brian Reeby Award - George Budden
Didn’t miss a game despite illness, refereed all season too and won the Devon FA and Devon and Exeter league young referee of the year! Played in nearly every position for his teammates and showed a real determination!

Most Improved - Harry Gozna
Stepped up to the plate this year, Unselfishly playing in goal all season having only really played their in tournaments! Kept us in countless games at times and improved as each game went by!

Supporters Player - Harry Gozna
The 6th time he’s won this award since under 7’s says enough about his dedication and unwavering commitment to the team! Always giving his all and never gives up!

Players Player - Adam Gay
Taking over 80% of the votes, Adam has been superb all season, adding more to his game and importantly also putting in all the hard work thats needed to add to his natural talent on the ball!

Coaches Player - Adam Gay
A unanimous decision that was decided weeks before we even finished. Whilst he can frustrate the life out of you when he has the ball at times, this season Adam has really found the balance, often being completely unplayable! No more so than our last game in the 94th minute taking on half the team on his own before setting up the equaliser. A lovely lad too and well deserved!

Plonker of the year - Charlie Berner
Our skipper has been superb this year but has had more than a few stand out moments to bemuse us this season so richly deserves his accolade. No more so than completely forgetting the last game of the season 🙈😂

Thanks again to all the boys for their efforts and to the parents for the unwavering support and their kind hampers for the coaches!

One 12th and final season to go! Let’s give it a right good go 🤝⚽️👍

An entertaining end to our first season of under 18's football away to a strong Barnstaple side in heat they will have never played in before. The boys all showed superb work rate, commitment and effort from start to finish after a few lacklustre performances in recent weeks. 2 poor first half goals from corners in between a neat finish from Igor saw us 2-1 down at half time. The boys kept pressing in an end to end game that saw both the home keeper and Harry make a series of fine saves along with the boys throwing themselves in front of everything to defend their goal. We also missed a penalty after George was fouled in the box at 2-1. A cracking strike in the top corner made it 3-1 to Barnstaple and seemingly game over! The boys then found the energy to claw one back through George, before having a goal ruled out for offside, still they had more to give though and George deservedly grabbed the equaliser at the death after a great run from Adam. Proud of them all for not only their hard work but also the way they handled themselves and their behaviour too on a night where they could easily have lost their heads. Well done boys ⚽❤️

Not the long trip to the seaside that we hoped for yesterday away to Braunton! Despite a lacklustre performance we could and probably should have won the game, however we missed countless chances and found ourselves 3-0 down. The boys finally rallied near the end with goals from Max and Ollie W to make it 3-2, but it was too little too late. Braunton ultimately worked harder, wanted it more and ground out the result on the day.

Well beaten yesterday against a strong, organised and good footballing side away . An early goal that was probably offside did not help but from start to finish Westexe were the better side. Our second half performance was much better but the damage was already done by then. Not enough fight, battle or collective effort on the day. Strong performances from Max M and Leland at the back marking two very good centre forwards. Onto the last 3 games now all away in North Devon!

A great night under the lights last night for a double header with under 18's.

Two good games, evenly battled in a great spirit. Both games could have gone either way.

The first game ended in a 1-1 draw. After finding ourselves 1-0 down through some sloppy defending. The boys equalised with Igor getting his second goal in 2 games. The game then petered out to a draw!

The second game was also very even, Again finding ourselves 1-0 down through a cracking strike that went in off the post. The boys really turned it on then and played out the rest of the game with real energy despite some very tired legs. Billy stole the show with 2 cracking finishes, especially the second that nearly broke the net 🚀

A great effort from all involved, with Adam G putting in a superb performance playing every minute of both games!

Now onto a tricky run of away games to finish the season with league leaders Westexe on Sunday before 3 trips to North Devon!

Back to winning ways on Sunday with a good performance against a well organised Okehampton side. With Cullompton unfortunately folding 3 former Culm players in Max, Alex and Igor re-joined the squad to help with numbers which was timely due to quite a few not being available. Igor scored the first, before Okehampton equalised direct from a free kick, Adam then scored a rare right footed goal, Ollie W then scored from a goal made purely from hard work and chasing down the defence, before George finally got the better of Okehampton's centre half after a good 90 minute battle to score with the the last kick of the game!
