Gilcrux Springs Trout Farm & Fishery Gilcrux Springs Trout Farm is a small family run trout fishery on the outskirts of the Lake District National Park.

Our fishery has 3 well stocked ponds offering fly fishing & bait fishing. Open from 8 a.m - 5pm ( no day tickets after 3p.m.)

THE FLY POND WILL BE CLOSED ON TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY THIS WEEK 15TH AND 16TH , BACK OPEN AS NORMAL THURSDAY .
Once a year , we host a two day festival for children with additional needs in Cumbria

We are open tomorrow and then from Thursday as normal .

Unfortunately we are starting to see too many damaged fish. in both the fly and bait ponds.
Over the weekend I removed two dead fish over 6lb from the fly pond . Please if you want take a photo please get down low , Yet again I have seen someone holding a fish for a photo the fish moves , the fish is dropped from a good height , that fish is now seriously damaged and will probably die a few days later . The water is now getting colder so the fish are more prone to cold water fungus infection if damaged . please be aware of that . IT IS IMPORTANT TO BE AS CAREFUL AS POSSIBLE WHEN UNHOOKING AND RETURNING FISH PARTICULARLY NOW AS WATER IS GETTING COLDER AND THEIR ABILITY TO RECOVER DIMINISHES

You must bring a landing net for both fly and bait ponds . Be warned I will start ,not allowing people to fish if they do not have a net.
The fishing has been really good this year lets all work together to allow this to continue .

Bait fishing . Just an update , the fishing has been much harder than normal during these warm conditions as the fish are not feeding as well due to higher water temperatures. It looks much more promising for the week ahead with cooler conditions . Worm is definitely the best bait at the moment and sweet corn the least successful . Maggots and prawns are good as well . The best fishing is always first thing in the morning and eases off towards lunchtime . The bait ponds have been stocked with over 200 new fish this week so both ponds are well stocked . The ponds are open from 8 a.m. and we close promptly at 5 p.m. No day tickets are available after 3 p.m. So please do not turn up at 4 pm thinking you can fish for an hour , you cannnot !

PLEASE , PLEASE when you finish fishing on the bait pond do not throw all your bait into the ponds , it ruins the fishing for those that come after you , despite my efforts in restocking twice today , very few fish were caught and those that were , were stuffed with sweet corn . if you want to feed it to the geese and swans that is fine . I hope this polite request does the trick

We will be closing the fishery early at 1pm for the next three days due to the heat . Temperatures permitting will reopen as normal on Saturday

No day tickets issued after 3 p.m.

PLEASE NOTE the fishery will close at 4 pm on Saturday 9th May , gates will open at 7.30 a.m.
Also a big thank you to everyone who fished on Bank Holiday Monday the fishery was spotless after everyone had gone .
