Dodworth Miners 44–18 East Hull
A statement victory for Dodworth Miners today as we secured a fantastic 44–18 victory over East Hull.
After losing to East Hull four times last season, this result is a tremendous achievement and one that everyone involved with the club should be incredibly proud of. It shows just how far this group has come and the hard work that has gone into developing this team.
East Hull brought a very young side today, but they deserve a lot of credit. Despite the scoreline, they never gave in and continued to compete right until the final whistle.
Their number 2 on the wing was particularly impressive, using his pace to make three fantastic try-saving tackles. Their number 14 also never stopped running or tackling and was deservedly their Man of the Match.
For Dodworth, our forwards were absolutely dominant today and laid the platform for the whole team.
El Wrag was a constant threat with his running, causing the East Hull defence problems throughout the game, while Harrison was as elusive as ever and made things happen every time he got the ball.
It was also fantastic to see DJ back out playing, and young Ollie Gillot stepping up from the Under 18s was superb. Ollie looked completely at home and capped his performance with a brilliant try in the corner.
Kielan was our Man of the Match and thoroughly deserved it. He was outstanding in the middle, running hard, tackling even harder and causing East Hull plenty of problems. He also got himself on the scoresheet.
There were great performances across the whole team from Joe Perry, Adam Edwards, Kielan Egley, Kieran Hyde, Harrison Norman, Matthew Lock, El Wrag and Ollie Gillot.
The final whistle brought a 44–18 victory, but this result means much more than just the scoreline.
To go from losing to East Hull four times last year to producing a performance like this is a fantastic achievement.
The boys should be incredibly proud of themselves today.
A brilliant performance, a brilliant result and another huge step forward for Dodworth Miners.
