Our senior teams compete in the Liverpool & District Cricket Competition and the West Lancashire Sunday League, with junior teams playing in the Wigan & District Junior leagues. We usually have a very full social events programme, which has been impacted by covid-19, but please keep an eye out for what's coming up via this page. We run junior cricket teams from under 9s, under 11s, under

13s, under 15s, and 3 senior teams playing across Saturdays and Sundays. New players for all age groups are very welcome. Our ground and facilities are recognised as some of the best in the north of England. We also have a number of function rooms for hire, including the Parish Hall and smaller lounges. Please contact Matt Jones on 07930 867209 for more details.

On Monday we welcomed Dave Stableford from Plumbase in Wigan, down to Billinge Road for a photo with our Women's & Girls squads.

Dave approached us about sponsorship very early in the season and it's great that Plumbase is now a sponsor of our Girls and Womens cricket!

Another fantastic turnout this week with 40... YES 40 taking part and learning new skills!

A massive thanks to Gill Higgins for allowing us 5 mins for a pic, but it's great to see this level of support and thank Dave and Plumbase for their generous contribution!

Match Report: Highfield U11 Squirrels ๐Ÿฟ๏ธ vs Sutton CC U11

Congratulations to the Highfield U11 Squirrels ๐Ÿฟ๏ธ on qualifying for T20 cricketโ€”no more pairs cricket! This is a fantastic achievement for the whole team. Well done, everyone! ๐Ÿ‘

The weather was warm and cloudy, but much improved compared to the conditions we have experienced over the past few weeks.

Highfield welcomed Sutton CC and lost the toss, with Sutton choosing to field first. As our plan had been to bat first anyway, we were happy with the decision.

Highfield Innings
Freddie and Aaria opened the batting and both started confidently. Unfortunately, Aaria was dismissed early, bringing Chamiru to the crease.

Freddie played some lovely shots, including three boundaries, and rotated the strike well with quick singles. Chamiru settled in steadily, supporting Freddie and helping to build the innings.

After Freddie was dismissed, Phillip joined Chamiru at the crease. A special mention goes to Chamiru, who batted with great responsibility, played some excellent shots, and kept the scoreboard moving throughout his innings. He retired not out on 37 runsโ€”a brilliant start to our T20 campaign. Well done, Chamiru! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ

Phillip and Chamiru ran well between the wickets, but Phillip was unfortunately run out while attempting a risky single.

Freddy B then joined Chamiru, and together they continued to build the innings sensibly. Freddy B played some attractive shots but was unfortunately stumped.

James came in next and looked positive from the start but was caught and dismissed. George then joined Chamiru, and the pair put together a useful partnership. Chamiru struck another lovely boundary before retiring on 37 not out.

Dougie joined George for the final three overs, and both batted responsibly while adding some valuable quick runs. George hit a lovely boundary, and Dougie also played some excellent shots.

Highfield finished on 109 for 5 from their 20 overs.

Sutton Innings
Before taking the field, Bala gathered the team for a quick chat, offering encouragement and boosting confidence. The Squirrels returned to the field full of energy and determination.

Freddie opened the bowling and delivered three very tight overs, keeping Suttonโ€™s scoring under control.

Phillip followed with three excellent overs, restricting the run rate and making it difficult for Sutton to build any momentum.

Chamiru then came into the attack, bowling three tight overs and claiming a very important wicket.

Dougie and Seb continued the pressure. Seb bowled two excellent overs, showing great control and discipline as Sutton struggled to increase the scoring rate.

Dougie returned for a further two overs, bowled with great effort, and was rewarded with a wicket.

Aaria then bowled two disciplined overs, keeping things tight and conceding very few extras.

George also bowled well, keeping the scoreboard moving slowly and taking an important wicket.

James produced a disciplined spell, bowling accurately, maintaining the pressure, and claiming a wicket. Superb bowling, James!
The final over was bowled by Gauresh, who finished the innings strongly with a tight over and no unnecessary extras.

A special mention goes to Freddy B behind the stumps. He worked tirelessly throughout the innings and made a significant contribution with his wicket-keeping.

Another special mention goes to Seb, who took a brilliant catch on the boundary. It was a difficult chance, but he showed great determination, judged it superbly, and held on to complete an outstanding catch.
Sutton finished on 82 runs.

Result

๐Ÿ† Highfield U11 Squirrels won by 27 runs, securing their first T20 victory! ๐ŸŽ‰

This was a true team performance, with everyone contributing through batting, bowling, fielding, and supporting one another. The effort, energy, and teamwork shown throughout the match were outstanding.

Well done to every player for their contribution. Keep up the great work, and letโ€™s go again next week in the derby match against Wigan! ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ๐Ÿฟ๏ธ

Match Report โ€“ Highfield U13 Gold vs St Helens U13 ๐Ÿฟ๏ธ๐Ÿ

What an exciting and very close game for our Squirrels ๐Ÿฟ๏ธ, who were unlucky to lose by just 3 runs. Every player gave absolutely everything, and they should all be very proud of their efforts. Well done to all the players!

It was a slightly cloudy evening as the Squirrels received a warm welcome from St Helens CC.

Highfield lost the toss and were asked to bowl first.

Please ignore the bowling figures on Play Cricket, as the St Helens scorer unfortunately mixed up the bowling statistics.

Evie opened the bowling and worked hard to keep things tight. Freya B then came into the attack and bowled two excellent overs, taking a well-deserved wicket.

Cecil bowled brilliantly and picked up two wickets, including a fantastic effort where she caught the ball and completed the dismissal herself โ€“ what a moment!

Chamiru then came into the attack with some lovely leg spin, making the batters play carefully. Chamiru had an outstanding game in the field, taking three catches at cover and helping with two run-outs. One of those run-outs removed one of St Helensโ€™ strongest batters. What a performance, Chamiru โ€“ keep up the great work! ๐Ÿ‘

Dogie bowled with great control and kept things tight. Phillip also bowled really well, giving very little away and making it difficult for the batters to score freely.

Joseph came into the attack and bowled superbly, slowing the scoring rate and picking up a wicket. Ben also bowled really well, taking a wicket and helping keep St Helens under pressure. Osca bowled strongly too, keeping the scoreboard from moving too quickly.

A special mention to James for his excellent wicketkeeping behind the stumps. He worked incredibly hard to stop the ball, kept the runs down, and showed great effort throughout the innings. Well done, James ๐Ÿ‘ โ€“ keep up the great work!

St Helens finished on 96 for 7.

After a quick team talk from Bala, the Squirrels headed out to bat full of confidence.

Ben and Joseph opened the batting and gave Highfield a really strong start. Joseph played some excellent shots, while Ben supported brilliantly by rotating the strike and taking quick singles. The pair built a strong partnership and kept the scoreboard moving before Ben was unfortunately caught.

Chamiru joined Joseph at the crease, and together they kept things ticking over with smart running between the wickets and quick singles as Highfield moved closer to the target. Unfortunately, Joseph was dismissed after playing a fantastic innings.

Osca then joined Chamiru but was unlucky not to stay long. Edie then came in and played a brilliant innings, hitting some excellent shots and boundaries that pushed Highfield closer to victory.

Unfortunately, Edie was dismissed and Phillip joined Chamiru. The pair worked hard for quick singles before Phillip was out. Evie then came in to support Chamiru as they battled hard to keep the chase alive.

After Chamiru was dismissed, Cecil joined Evie for a tense finish. The Squirrels needed 4 runs from the final ball to win. Both players worked incredibly hard under pressure, but only a single could be managed, leaving Highfield heartbreakingly 3 runs short.

Every single Squirrel ๐Ÿฟ๏ธ worked hard, bowled brilliantly, fielded well, and batted with determination. Unfortunately, this time we couldnโ€™t quite secure the win, but the team spirit and effort were outstanding.

Letโ€™s go again next week with the same energy and spirit โ€“ the win will come! Well done, everyone! ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ

UPDATE: Summer Sounds ticket refunds are well underway!

We would like to update you on the progress of refunds for the Summer Sounds Music Festival tickets.

But firstly, thank you to everyone who has commented or contacted us with messages of support... We were all extremely saddened to have to cancel, but it really means a lot to the individuals who organised this event, along with the club as a whole to have your ongoing support! ๐Ÿ‘

Moving on: since Sunday we have been working through the incredibly long list of ticket sales and processing refunds via our website.

This process has to be done on a transaction by transaction basis, and we are working through the long list in order of purchase.

Once the refund has been initiated, it will take 3 to 5 working days for the money to arrive in the account from which you paid.

It is important that we get this 100% right, but we are also conscious that it needs to be done in a speedily fashion. So please rest assured that we are working hard behind the scenes ensuring all refunds are processed quickly and efficiently.

We will update this page to let you know when all refunds have been processed. We expect this to be completed in the next couple of days.

If you have any queries, it's best to await the "Refunds Complete" message to be put out first, as checking any messages may take up valuable resource time which we want to use to get the refunds done. We hope you understand.

We would like to thank everybody for those messages of support, positivity, and encouragement to go again next year with what would have been a fantastic event for the community. ๐Ÿ™

Match Report โ€“ Highfield U13 Blue v Euxton U13

Highfield U13 Blueโ€™s battled hard against top of the league Euxton, but ultimately fell 37 runs short after an entertaining contest that showcased some excellent cricket from both teams.

Batting first, Euxton posted an impressive 141-2 from their 20 overs. Their innings were built around two excellent retired half-centuries from Jack C (53*) and Max W (51*), who provided a solid platform at the top of the order. Euxtonโ€™s batters frustrated our bowlers, but we stuck to the task throughout, staying positive in the field and encouraging all the players.

The only wicket went to Josh , but the Highfield bowlers shared the workload well. Josh led the way with figures of 1-16 from his three overs, while Matt Mc delivered a particularly economical spell of 2 overs, including a maiden, for just 11 runs. Olly was equally impressive, conceding only 7 runs from his two overs. Nathan, Freddie A, Matt Mel, Jack, Madison, Jamie, and George all contributed valuable overs as Highfield kept competing until the final ball. Our u9s keeper, Freddie B, gets better every week and was superb again behind the stumps!

At the midpoint, we felt weโ€™d given Euxton 30 too many runs in the field, but we never give up and were focused on chasing 142 for victory.

Highfield opened with Olly and Matt Mc, both starting well โ€“ Olly with his usual trademark big hits and Matt playing some very technical shots around the ground. We suffered a setback with the score on 40 after 5 overs when Matt was dismissed with an excellent ball and Olly shortly after.

This brought Josh and Nathan to the crease. The two went on to build an excellent partnership, with Josh playing confidently for his 21 runs, finding the boundary, and keeping the scoreboard moving.

Alongside Josh, Nathan produced his most mature innings of the season, respecting the good balls and putting away the bad ones (including a 6 that finished in the car park!), scoring 29 runs from 41 balls and occupying the crease until the end of the game.

Jack had a brief stay at the crease, while Matt Mel added useful runs in the middle order. Freddie A contributed well with the bat before being run out following a miscommunication after a no-ball. Madison and Jamie were unlucky not to contribute more, with Madison snicking one to the keeper and Jamie stumped. At the end of the innings, Freddie B was unbeaten on 5, showing great determination to see the game over the line and provide quick singles over. Nathan was finally bowled with the last ball, chopping on, trying to scoop over the keeper! Highfield finishing with 104 runs.

Every member of the team contributed during the game.

Although the result did not go Highfield's way, there were plenty of positives to take from the performance.

Thanks to Jon, Gary, and our supportive parents.

Andy
