๐ RUGBY AT LITTLE LEAPS! ๐
What a brilliant Saturday at Little Leaps! Our little ones had lots of fun getting active, developing new skills and, of courseโฆ getting the rugby balls out!
We started with an obstacle course, helping the children develop their balance, coordination, agility, spatial awareness and gross motor skills as they jumped, moved, crawled and navigated around the course.
Then it was time for rugby!
We worked on:
Grip & carrying โ helping develop hand strength, coordination and control.
Running with the ball โ building balance, body control, agility and confidence while moving.
Throwing & catching โ developing hand-eye coordination, reaction skills and an understanding of movement.
Kicking โ supporting balance, lower-body coordination and control.
We then played a fun chase and tackle-style game, where the children tried to pinch each other's scarves!
This encourages speed, agility, reaction time and spatial awareness, while also teaching children how to move safely around others and have fun together.
Raid the Treasure!
A favourite game where the children collected treasure and counted as they went!
Combining movement with counting helps children develop their early maths skills in a fun, active and memorable way.
Parachute time!
We finished our activities with the parachute, working together to lift, lower and move it.
Parachute games are fantastic for developing cooperation, listening, communication, and teamwork, while encouraging children to work as part of a group.
And of courseโฆ we finished with stickers!
At Little Leaps, we believe sport for young children should be about much more than just learning how to play a sport.
It's about helping children develop the physical, social, emotional and cognitive skills they need as they grow โ all while having fun and building a positive relationship with being active.
