At the end of the 2026 season, Dave Myers will call time on his tenure as Head Coach of our Open Age First Team.
And we think itโs fair to say heโll be leaving it in a very different place to where he found it.
Myers took over as Head Coach at the end of the 2021 season, with St Judes in NCL Division 2.
His first full season saw us finish 9th in 2022. A year later weโd moved up to 5th.
Then came 2024 and 2025.

NCL Premier Division
From taking over a Division 2 side to leading St Judes into the NCL Premier Division is some achievement.
But probably the biggest thing Myers has done isnโt something youโll see on a league table.
He changed the culture around our whole Open Age section.
He raised the standards and expectations of what our First Team should be, but importantly he also helped bring the whole senior section together.
The old idea of having a First Team and a Second Team changed. The Second Team became our NWML team, with its own identity and something for the lads involved to be proud of, while at the same time creating a clear pathway into the NCL squad.
That pathway stretched down into our U18s too.
Lads could progress from the U18s into the NWML squad and, when the opportunity was there, straight into the NCL team.
Myers helped change the mindset around the senior section into one playing group, with players competing for selection across the squads, rather than simply being seen as a First Team and a Second Team.
He connected the whole thing up.
And the progress of the NWML team speaks for itself too. What was once simply viewed as the Second Team is now a team with its own identity, its own ambitions and something the club is equally proud of, now competing in the NWML Premier Division.
๐ง๐ต๐ฒ๐ป ๐๐ต๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ฒโ๐ ๐ ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐ต๐ถ๐ ๐ฝ๐น๐ฎ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐.
Because through all of this, the players have always been at the heart of everything heโs done.
Heโs fought their corner and pushed us as a club to make sure they got the best we could give them. He genuinely cares about the lads he coaches, and anybody who has played under him will know that.
His man management has without doubt been one of his biggest strengths.
He knows when a player needs an arm around them, when they need a kick up the arse and, most importantly, how to get the best out of different people.
That relationship with his players has been a massive part of his success.
Yes, heโs won trophies and promotions, but what heโs built goes a lot deeper than that.
Heโs helped create a senior section where lads want to play for St Judes, where our young players can see a pathway ahead of them and where our Open Age teams are pulling in the same direction.
๐ ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ ๐ถ๐ ๐ฆ๐ ๐๐๐ฑ๐ฒ๐ ๐๐ต๐ฟ๐ผ๐๐ด๐ต ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐๐ต๐ฟ๐ผ๐๐ด๐ต.
He joined the club at 22 and played Open Age for over 12 years. He started his coaching journey with our U12s in 2013, took those lads through the age groups and then moved into the Open Age setup before eventually taking the top job.
So when you actually sit back and look at it, heโs given half his life to St Judes!
But thereโs still rugby to be played and Myers isnโt finished just yet, ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐๐๐ฟ๐ฑ๐ฎ๐ ๐ญ๐ต๐๐ต ๐ฆ๐ฒ๐ฝ๐๐ฒ๐บ๐ฏ๐ฒ๐ฟ ๐๐ถ๐น๐น ๐ฏ๐ฒ ๐ต๐ถ๐ ๐น๐ฎ๐๐ ๐ต๐ผ๐บ๐ฒ ๐ด๐ฎ๐บ๐ฒ ๐ฎ๐ ๐๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ฑ ๐๐ผ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ต ๐ผ๐ณ ๐ช๐ถ๐ด๐ฎ๐ป ๐ฆ๐ ๐๐๐ฑ๐ฒ๐.

As a club, weโre extremely grateful for everything Myers has done and everything heโs given to St Judes over the years.
The trophies and promotions speak for themselves, but the culture heโs changed, the pathway heโs built and the people heโs influenced along the way will be his real legacy.
