Unfortunate day at teeside on the ph drift day on Friday fir the mx5.
Started off the day going strong and then hit almost a limp mode or a lowered rev limmiter as soon as it reached temperature ended up having to take huge breaks between runs until we figured out at lunch time the coil pack was deteriorated luckily we had a spare so we threw that on and good to go (so we taught).
After lunch we switched to some brand new 205 45 16 tyres instead of the other 195 45 16 hoping the bit more grip would help as the track was still quite wet however it had dried out after lunch and we only got about 4 laps in on West corse car felt great tones of smoke however the gearbox seemed a bit whiney (usually has a slight wine as its under a lot of load but considering we just changed the oil to some new thicker oil it seemed a bit odd.)
So I cut across to Sooth bank the car was still going great felt perfect on power and chassi wise got to the 3rd and final lap before I was going to pull in to the pits for a minute.
Got to the reverse s bends after the large banked tight hander when all of a sudden there was a huge bang under the car and the car almost felt like it jumped in the air so I pulled to the side thinking I had just snapped a shaft or something easily changeable there and then dropped to 1st gear and drove off the track safely got back to the pits and got the car up on the trailer so we could access the under side after jacking the back up and trying through all the gears we found out 3rd gear was another neutral 😅 unfortunately we was only just past half way through the day so we was obviously gutted with a broken car and half a day driving wasted.
Ended up getting the car home and back in the garage that night woke up bright and early Saturday ready to tackle the job. Set off to Manchester to get a mk2 mx5 5 speed transmission (these are supposedly stronger boxes)
Sunday got the car in the air and dropped the old transition out of the car along with the ppf frame and diff. Drained the oil to find 4 teeth off 3rd gear laying in the oil catch.
Makes you realise how aggressive this sport is on some of the cars parts and how mutch strain its all under.
Guess my good ole transition didn't like that extra 100 horse going through it after all eh🤣🤣
Huge thankyou to all my sponsors could have been game over for me yesterday if you guys didn't help me out
