We lost Toby last week.
Only a day after jumping the round of his life to finish 3rd in the HOYS class at RHS, Toby was rushed to the Royal Dick on June 22nd where he immediately underwent colic surgery including bowel resection.
Following surgery he was given every available treatment to support him in giving his system a chance to get going again and initially he seemed to be improving. However by Tuesday his guts were still showing no signs of moving and he was starting to reflux more volume. He continued to deteriorate until Thursday, by which time every available medical option had been explored and he had lost so much condition that the decision was made that if he continued to deteriorate overnight with no signs of improvement he would be euthanised the following morning, and that is what happened.
It has taken me a while to write this because I have been trying to find the words to describe the pain and loss I feel but I still haven't found them. I searched for years for a Connemara stallion but the minute I saw Toby it was like I had really just been looking for him all this time.
In the far too short time he was with us we loved him so very much and had so much fun. I absolutely loved seeing him just go from strength to strength and was so excited to be a part of his journey and all of the hopes, dreams and plans for the future that went with it.
Here are the pictures from Royal Highland, flying round with Ellie Meldrum who took such great care of Toby along with Calvin, even visiting him in hospital for which I am so grateful.
I'll be searching all the rest of my life and never find another Glanna Mór.
