🏆 NATIONAL CUP – ROUND 3 🏆

The Hornets hit the road once again (we have some home games soon, I promise 🤣) this Bank Holiday weekend as we travel to Leigh East Lions in Round 3 of the National Cup.

⏰ Kick-off: 11:15am

After an outstanding performance and victory away at Folly Lane last weekend, the lads will be looking to carry that momentum into what promises to be a Bank Holiday banger.

The Lions came out on top when the sides met earlier in the league season, so there will be no shortage of motivation as the Hornets look to gain revenge and book their place in the next round.

Expect a fierce battle between two sides who know each other well, with a place in the National Cup hat at stake.

Get down and support the lads as they look to continue their cup journey!

Match Report | Folly Lane 14-32 Hornets

The Hornets produced one of their best performances of the season to come away from Folly Lane with a superb 32-14 victory in a game packed with intensity, big carries and some outstanding attacking rugby.

From the very first whistle the lads looked like caged animals, flying into tackles and hitting the home side with relentless intensity. Folly Lane simply couldn’t live with the energy and aggression the Hornets brought early on.

That fast start paid off immediately as Harry opened the scoring with a strong finish before Nico added the extras for a 6-0 lead.

Folly responded with a try of their own very much against the run of play, as the Hornets had dominated territory and possession during the opening exchanges. The score did little to slow the visitors down though, and Harry grabbed his second try before the break to ensure the lads headed into half time with a healthy advantage. Nico was again accurate with the boot as the Hornets kept control of the contest.

After the break the Hornets extended their lead when Sonny burst through the defence to score under the sticks after another powerful attacking set. Nico added the conversion to continue his perfect afternoon with the boot.

Folly Lane hit back with a try in the corner to give themselves some hope, but the Hornets responded immediately with one of their own as Zack got the ball down in the corner after some excellent attacking pressure.

Next Bobbie got on the scoresheet, finishing off a fine passing move in the corner to put the game out of sight. The Hornets’ scoring was then rounded off by Olly G, who was on fire all afternoon, crashing through the middle with a powerful run that four Folly defenders couldn’t stop.

Folly grabbed a late consolation following a penalty, but the game was already done with the lads setting a very high bar ahead of next week’s National Cup clash away at Leigh East.

A huge effort from every single player with the defence, energy and teamwork outstanding throughout.

This weekend the Hornets hit the road again as we travel to Folly Lane for another big league clash.

The lads will be looking to bounce back and put in a strong performance, but we know the home side will be fired up after we knocked them out of the Lancashire Cup earlier in the season. Revenge will definitely be on their minds.

Expect a tough, physical battle with both teams wanting the points. The boys will need to be at their very best from minute one.
