First references to organised Association Football in Wickwar (Gloucestershire) are in the early 1890s. There have been teams in this small "town" ever since with some decades bringing more honors than others. Early on in the 1900s, the team was called Wickwar Athletic. But fashions change and so did the name, Wickwar Athletic became Wickwar Rovers then Wickwar United until 1990 when it became Wic

kwar Wanderers. With a number of breweries in Wickwar, it is not surprising that Wickwar teams were locally referred to as "The Brewers" in the first decades of the century. The annual Football Frolics is a successful event run every year. A five-a-side football tournament held in June. Forty to fifty teams enter, from 6-7 year olds to the over fifties. Another successful event is the Comedy Night, we have had great feedback from our attendees, we usually have three comedians and a compere. There is a licensed bar with many beers and wines.
