As a middle-aged woman, there’s a LOT I know I can be doing to support my health and manage the mass of perimenopausal symptoms that have hit me like a brick over the last couple of years 🤪

Strength training.
Nutrition.
Prioritising sleep.
Managing stress.

Yep… all super important if we want to thrive through this rollercoaster of an age! 🤯

But where does Pilates come into all of this?

For me, Pilates is the glue that holds it all together.

❤️ It gives me a baseline of strength, mobility and body awareness, helping me feel more confident when I’m lifting heavier and maintain good form.

❤️ It helps me tune into my body and recognise what it’s actually telling me, rather than just pushing through, which helps me make better choices around movement, food and rest.

❤️ It gives my body and mind space to slow down and helps me recognise when I need to wind down.

❤️ It teaches me proper breathing techniques that I can use during movement and in everyday life.

❤️ It connects my whole body and gives me a better understanding of what’s going on. And sometimes my body just doesn’t feel great… but Pilates allows me to work with my body rather than against it.

I taught the first class of my new Strength & Stillness block today and it reminded me just how important this practice is alongside my own strength training.

Because honestly, without Pilates, I’m not sure I’d have the same confidence, ability or body awareness to get the most out of my strength work.

And this is one of the reasons why I created Strength & Stillness.

If you’re thinking:

“I really should get into strength training…”

…but you don’t feel strong enough, confident enough or quite sure where to start…

Pilates could be your stepping stone.

Build your strength and mobility.
Build your body awareness.
Build your confidence.

Then take those foundations into your strength training.

And if you’re one of my fellow perimenopause ladies, when you’re ready for strength training, you definitely need to check out the amazing , she’s got you 💪❤️

You don’t buy nutritional advice from me.

And that’s kind of the point.

There is already an endless supply of nutritional advice online.

Eat this.
Don’t eat that.
Cut carbs.
Count calories.
Drink this.
Avoid that.
Follow this 7-day plan. 🙄

You don’t need another list of foods you should or shouldn’t eat.

What I want to give you is something much more useful:

The knowledge, skills and confidence to make decisions about your health for yourself.

Because improving your health isn’t just about knowing what to eat.

It’s understanding your own habits, behaviours, hunger signals, environment, mindset and relationship with food and learning how to make changes that actually work within your real life.

For some people, that might mean a few small tweaks.

For others, it might mean a more structured approach.

But there is no one-size-fits-all diet. And there’s no prize for making things as complicated or restrictive as possible!

One of my clients recently told me:

“I’m sold on the whole lifestyle picture which you’re helping me with.” ❤️

When they first came to me, their goal was weight loss.

But the work we’ve done together has become so much bigger than that.

They’ve been learning to recognise hunger signals, become more mindful around food, manage stress differently, navigate social situations and understand their own behaviours and responses.

And ultimately, become more confident in the person they want to be.

That’s what nutrition coaching with me is about.

Not another diet.

Not me telling you what you can and can’t eat.

Not giving you a list of “good” and “bad” foods.

It’s about helping you build the tools and strategies to look after your health for the long term so that healthy choices become something you do, rather than something you’re constantly trying to “get back on track” with.

Because September doesn’t need to mean another extreme reset.

Maybe it’s time to start differently. 💚

September is here…the kids are back to school…and suddenly you think, I really need to get back on track with my health and fitness after a summer of overindulgence and no routine! 🤪

Then you look online and see people doing extreme Pilates moves in matching Lycra with a matcha in hand and think…

I’m not bendy enough for that.
There’s no way I’m getting into Lycra.
I’m not confident enough to join a class.

I hear you. ❤️

And here I am doing an advanced move on the Cadillac…

Which might make it look like this is what Pilates is all about.

Fancy moves.
Being bendy.
A toned-looking body.

But as a busy working mum of teenagers myself, that’s not really why I do or teach Pilates.

My movement practice is much more about how I feel than how I look.

It’s about managing the everyday aches and niggles that seem to become a little more noticeable as I move through my 40s.

Feeling stronger and more capable in my body.

Having more energy.

Supporting my mood and managing stress when life feels a lot.

And building confidence in my body because of what it can do, not how it looks.

Because as we get older, we don’t need another thing telling us how our bodies should look.

We need to feel confident using them.

Strength to carry the shopping.
Mobility to get down on the floor and back up again.
Balance to feel steady.
And body awareness to know when we need to move, rest or modify.

So yes, I’ll happily do the fancy Cadillac moves too…they’re good fun and seriously tough, so they definitely help build strength! 😉

But they’re not the goal.

The goal is a body that feels good to live in.

And if your September Pilates looks more like 20 minutes squeezed between work, school runs, emails and everything else life throws at you…

That counts too. ❤️

If you’d like a helping hand to get moving, from someone who isn’t interested in how bendy you are or how you look in Lycra, take a look at my Pilates classes (in Wickford, Essex and Online) on my website in bio!

Another lovely week of teaching, another lovely message from a client, a lovely gift received from a client, some lovely feedback about my classes and a lovely feeling as my working week starts to draw to a close 😊❤️

There’s a lot of noise around at the minute about what’s right and wrong in the world of Pilates. Honestly, we could debate it all day and still not arrive at one definitive “right” answer. Alongside this are lots of insta perfect ‘pilates’ videos fuelling the debate even more!!

Over the last eight years as an instructor, I’ve trained across contemporary and classical Pilates, worked with a variety of equipment, learned from different training providers, mentors and teachers, and every single one has given me something valuable that has shaped the way I teach.

I wholeheartedly believe in Pilates as a method, but I also recognise that there are many ways to apply it. I continue to study the principles behind the method, learn new techniques and cues, and stay curious. But at the end of the day, it’s my clients who teach me the most.

Standing in front of different bodies that move, feel and learn in different ways means constantly adapting and problem-solving. My job is to work out what will help the person in front of me, not what fits neatly into one box.

Sometimes that means stepping away from more traditional exercises or the ones that look impressive on social media and breaking things down before building them back up. It might not always look like the Pilates people expect at first, but as confidence, strength and body awareness grow, we can progress towards more challenging and recognisable Pilates exercises.

Over the years, I’ve learned that being adaptable isn’t moving away from the method, it’s applying its principles in a way that meets each individual where they are.

I’m passionate about the Pilates method and the principles that underpin it. But I’m even more passionate about helping the person in front of me. For me, great teaching is knowing the method well enough to honour it, while having the flexibility to adapt it to the individual. Because no two bodies are the same, and neither should our teaching be.

Bring on the school summer holidays!! ☀️💙😃

I feel grateful every year to be able to spend another summer with my kids, even though they are growing up way too fast!!

Will I still have to work? Yes…Will the days be a juggle? Yes? Will it be hard to keep up my health and fitness routine? Yes…BUT there are small manageable ways to fit health, fitness and wellbeing into school holiday life with the kids, whilst you work and still enjoy, have fun and feel good along the way!!

Here’s some ways that I have found work best for me ☝️

Hit me with your health and wellbeing plans for the summer in the comments 👇💪❤️☀️

The school summer holidays are just around the corner… ☀️🏖️

Part of you is thinking…

YES! 🙌
A break from the routine. No more 6am packed lunches, juggling work and school schedules, and finally some downtime at the beach.

But then there’s the other part of you thinking…

Oh no… 😅
A break from my routine. How will I fit in my workouts? When will I find time for myself? My aches and pains always seem to creep back when I stop doing Pilates and moving regularly.

That’s exactly why my Summer Series is back for a second year! 💪✨

I’ve created 5 x 10-minute pre-recorded Pilates sessions that you can fit into your summer, whenever and wherever it works for you. No need to stick to a strict routine or find an hour you simply don’t have.

Is it ideal? No.

Are you thinking, “I just won’t do it at home, I need to be in a class”? Maybe.

But here’s the thing…

When is life ever ideal? We rarely have the perfect conditions to do the things that make us feel good. Sometimes we just need an option that works for the season we’re in.

This could be exactly that.

✨ Some movement is always better than no movement.
✨ Some Pilates is better than no Pilates.
✨ Ten minutes is infinitely better than zero minutes.

Let’s keep those niggles at bay, keep your body feeling good, and make moving this summer feel achievable, not overwhelming.

I’ve welcomed a new client into my studio this week (it doesn’t happen often as my fully booked schedule and loyal client base rarely allows me to take on new clients) but it reminded me…

When people walk into my studio for the first time, they each bring their own story, their own fears, their own goals, and their own starting point.

My job as a teacher isn’t just to guide them through exercises. It’s to listen to their story, acknowledge their fears, and work with them to get ‘that feeling’ and sense of achievement. Every session is tailored to their goals, and we always begin exactly where they are in their journey, because no two journeys are ever the same.

That’s the beauty of Pilates. It truly meets you where you are. Every movement can be adapted, broken down, and rebuilt so that each person feels safe, supported, and confident. Then, as that confidence grows, so does the challenge.

I genuinely believe in the Pilates method and everything it can offer, no matter your age, fitness level, or stage of life.

Today is one of those gratitude days. ❤️ I feel incredibly lucky that I get to do what I love and help people become stronger, more confident, and often completely transform the way they move, feel, and live.

Thank you to every single person who trusts me to be part of their journey.

You know how good it feels when you keep moving...... your body feels better, your mind feels clearer, and those nagging aches stay away. But summer can throw off even the best routines ☀️🤪🤯

Let’s be honest, the season should be filled with fun, laughter, sun, sea, sand, and some much-needed downtime. And yes, all of that should be a priority!

But when your regular classes pause or life gets a little too off routine, motivation dips, stiffness creeps in, and that strong, energised feeling you’ve worked so hard for can quickly fade.

That’s where I come in....

Even during school holidays, beach breaks, or when your instructor’s off on a well-deserved getaway, some movement is always better than none.

With my short and simple pre-recorded videos, you can:
Keep moving
Keep breathing
And stay on top of your physical and mental wellbeing — wherever summer takes you.

5 x 10 Minute Pre Recorded Pilates Workouts - Each video with a different focus:
Core & Arms
Glutes & Legs
Mobility & Flexibility
Balance
Gentle flow

Additional 5 Minute video of Functional Breathing

One price - lifetime access so you can keep moving through the summer and beyond ☀️💪❤️
