This weekend, pitches across the country will start to fill again.

Boots will be laced.
Shin pads will go on.
Parents will be stood on touchlines, dryrobes optional.
Coaches will be shouting encouragement.

And, most importantly… kids will be playing football. ⚽️

For Wickersley Youth JFC, a new season means new teams, new players, new challenges and plenty of excitement.

But today, on the eve of another season, we also want to take a moment to think about those who won’t be walking out with us this season.

We particularly want to say a huge THANK YOU from the club to James Handley and Andy Tudor and their team who finished at U17s last season.

Thank you for the hours spent at training (and the hours spent off it thinking about training!)
Thank you for the weekends on the touchline.
Thank you for the countless messages, team talks and early starts.
Thank you for the patience, the encouragement and the belief in the players.

But most of all, thank you for the memories.

Because years from now, the children might not remember every result or league position… but they’ll remember the teammates they grew up alongside, the goals they celebrated, the tournaments, the laughs, the car journeys, the muddy Sundays and the coaches who gave up their time to make it all happen.

That is what grassroots football is really about.

People give their time, their energy and a little piece of themselves to help children create memories that can last a lifetime. Those lads will remember some of these moments forever and hopefully one day they will be bringing their kids to the Academy (Bob will still be doing it!)

So, to everyone who has been part of Wickersley Youth — past and present — thank you. 👏

And to all of our teams starting a new season this weekend…

Enjoy every minute.

Make memories.

Support each other.

Wear the badge with pride.

And remember why we do it. 💙❤️

Last night our two U10 Girls had a Intra-club friendly to help fine tune their respective teams ahead of the league campaigns starting this week!

For our U10 Blues, this season they take on the challenge of 7v7 playing up an age group, having had a few friendlies thus far (including a seaside away trip to play Cleethorpes) they have adjusted to the new format brilliantly and will certainly do well.

Our U10 Reds face a tough league but with some great attacking play on display last night the coaches are positive about the chances of another successful campaign!

The game last night was a brilliant watch, some fantastic skills, team play, commitment and desire on display from all of the girls. Had some great feedback by parents of both age groups about the game and both sets of coaches were pleased with that they saw!

THE GRASSROOTS CODE — 2026/27

⚽️ A new season. A fresh start. One standard for everyone.

As we get ready for another season of grassroots football, we’re proud to support The Grassroots Code from England Football.

The code is all about creating the kind of football environment we want to see every weekend — positive, respectful, inclusive and safe.

Because grassroots football is about more than what happens for 90 minutes on a pitch. It’s about the experience we create for players, coaches, referees, volunteers, parents and supporters.

The five simple standards are:

A great day of football for our brand new Wickersley Youth Girls U8 Reds!!

They visited friends Beighton Magpies U8 Girls Purple and following a thrilling game the Beighton girls gifted all the Wickersley players with a bracelet supporting the ‘Be More Elemie’ campaign!!

The mission of ‘Be More Elemie is to improve and protect the mental health and emotional wellbeing of children by increasing access to timely and appropriate mental health support.

Congratulations to Wickersley CC FC who are finalists once again of the Montagu Cup!!!

The team based out of the Cricket Club, with many Wickersley Youth alumni, have made it through to the final after a tough run of games culminating in tonight’s Semi Final against Press Box.

The final takes place in 2027 and is one of the oldest cup finals in the country, the team will be aiming to win back to back titles following their first Montagu Cup win earlier this year!
