Today I am grinning like the Cheshire cat. Maybe more...
On Friday we had a discussion group, discussing a bit of equine learning theory, neuroscience and psychology. The group had decided that we were going to ditch the "curriculum" for the session and that I should do my "off on a tangent thing" instead. ππππππ
We had some great discussions, questions and suggestions, finishing with talking about random previous situations and applying the psychology models we had discussed to them, then exploring what went wrong, why and what would have helped the horse/rider/handler. I was also impressed with the whiteboard artwork that ensued, definitely better than mine! There was some great questions that have me researching too.
I hoped that I hadn't thrown too much information at them and that I hadn't bored them silly. This is an area I am very passionate about and could talk for days straight about. Be warned π€£
What made my heart so, so happy was that next time I saw these people, in lessons and on the yard they ALL were talking about and USING these concepts. Some had even explained them to their friends.
Instead of blaming the horse when things went wrong, or themselves, they were applying the theory and understanding what was happening. They also knew exactly what needed to happen to fix the issues.
I also had a rider who applied these models to themselves and in one lesson their riding excelled beyond anything either of us had expected. Then it happened with a second rider too! I am totally blown away with the difference and may incorporate these sessions more often if there is interest.
I'm so proud of them all. Thankyou for allowing me to go off on my tangents π€£
