There’s been some great junior cricket so far this week, U11 Blaze played on Monday evening, beating Pannal Star by 107 runs, taking 12 wickets, 4 of which were in the first over! Mentions go to Lewis for his 5 wickets, and Albert (15) and Sam (13) for runs scored. A great game win.
On Tuesday, U11 Fire came up against a strong Harrogate team, although not a win, there was some super cricket. GB and Jack opened the batting and they had a partnership of 12 without conceding wickets. In return, we took 5 wickets, there was some great fielding from Freddie and Charlie and a super catch from GB behind the stumps.
And finally, a fantastic win tonight for our U9s team in the sunshine vs our good friends at Ouseburn. We batted very well and didn’t lose a single wicket with special mention for Reggie who hit his first ball round the corner for four! There was some great bowling from all but well done to Theo (3), Raff (2) and Arthur (1) for their wickets…all bowled.
A brilliant introduction to competitive cricket for these guys and hopefully the start of some amazing cricketing careers!

RESULTS - It was defeat for the 1XI again at home. With rain around George opted to bowl first. Initially, this turned out to be the correct decision as we started very well, with the ball nipping about and beating the bat at both ends. We were very unlucky not to take a few wickets, however Willows reached 59-0 at drinks with a solid platform. The change of bowling to bring Dan and Harvey on paid off, as we took 3 quick wickets to see Willows go from 75-0 to 79-3. The pitch began to flatten out however, and a 72 run partnership followed for the 4th wicket, then an unbroken 82 run partnership to see the innings through gave us a chase of 233.
Unfortunately our woes with the bat continued with the only resistance coming from skipper George with a counter attacking 59 from 64, and Lorcan with 21* from 22 balls as fell 113 short.

At the deer park, the result for the 2XI was much more positive despite being bowled out for 120. Batting first, it was only Barney to score above 20 with 39 before being caught and bowled. A few made starts, however we only reached 120. Needing to bowl well, it appears we did just this with Katie and Harry striking early to take 3 wickets. Step forward Barney, who took all of the next 7 wickets for just 15 runs as we bowled Studley out for 53 to take home 17 points.

RESULTS - It was defeat for the 1XI away at Thornton le Moor as we failed to capitalise on a strong start, batting first. We lost Jack (sponsored by Katie’s Beauty Lounge) with the score at 29, however Jack L and Toby put on 56 for the second wicket which was broken when Jack was bowled for 36. Toby (sponsored by Vater Machinery) was next to go with the score still on 85, then Barney and then Jonny with the score still on 85 as we’d gone 85-1 to 85-5 in a matter of deliveries. Just 18 runs later, we lost another 2 wickets. Tom and skipper Dan Lever added 35 for the 8th wicket before Tom fell for a well made 23 down the order. Dan then fell for 14 and we were bowled out for 153. We picked up an early wicket with the ball, with Henry (sponsored by Atlantis Geometrics) striking. A 51 wicket partnership then followed, broken by the off spin of Tom. We managed to take 3 more wickets (Dan with 2 and Tom with his second), however Thornton le Moor reached their target in just 26 overs for the loss of 5 wickets.

The 2XI were victorious at home thanks to the Baines trio of Charles, Joe and Katie. Opening the batting, Charles made his second 72 in consecutive weeks and had another second wicket partnership with Harry with the two adding 79 before losing Charles. Despite the loss of a few quick wickets, we put on a commanding total thanks to Joe Baines who walked out to bat with the score at 149-5. Joe’s explosive 52* comprised 5x6s and 2x4s which pushed our score to 209-6 from 40 overs. With the ball, Katie and Joe shared 6 wickets between them - Katie taking 4-33 and Joe 2-6. We were in a strong position, with Burton Leonard struggling at 29-7. Despite an eighth wicket partnership of 53, we bowled the visitors out for 99 with Harry taking two wickets, Will and Jake taking the final two with one each.

U11 Fire played host to Knaresborough Forest this evening. Whixley lost the toss and were put in to bat, a few wickets were lost, but set a target of 241. JH (10 not out)
With the wild, wind of Whixley bringing a cool breeze, the boys set out to field. The fielding and bowling was top notch!! GB was fantastic behind the stumps, EW took 2 wickets and with some nifty fielding got a run out, SC got a wicket and a direct hit run out and CW got a wicket too. Forest ended on 230/6. Whixley win!

RESULTS - It was a 40 point Saturday as both sides bounced back from defeat last week. After being made to bowl first, the 1XI put on arguably their best performance with the ball this year. It wasn’t long before the opening pair of Toby (sponsored by Vater Machinery) and Henry (sponsored by Atlantis Geometrics) were into their work, restricting Darley to 39-2 inside 11 overs with a wicket each. Sam came on for Henry, and took just 8 balls before dismissing Darley’s overseas. Debutant Tom bowled well, and deserved a wicket from his 10 overs. Skipper George (sponsored by Northern Landscape Supplies) replaced Sam at the Ouseburn end and took the next 4 wickets at regular intervals to put Darley 138-7. Sam returned to replace Tom, and took the next two wickets to finished with 3-16 from 9. George finished off the innings to claim his first 5 wicket haul of the season, with figures of 5-45 from 10. A total of 154 was set. We started quickly with bat, well wickets column did anyway, as we collapsed to 0-3 inside two overs with none of our top 3 off the mark. An enterprising and positive partnership of 63 between James and Toby steadied the ship however, before James (37) lost his off stump. The in form Josh joined Toby and a further 58 was added for the 5th wicket before Josh was bowled for a well made 31. James (sponsored by JCA Accountancy) was the next man in, however just 17 runs later Toby was run out 4 short of his half century. A flurry of cut shots from James put any doubts to rest however, as we knocked off our total 6 down.

Away from home the 2XI piled on 246-6 from their 40 overs, mainly due to opener Charles’ 72 which included a 102 run partnership with Harry for the second wicket. Harry and Barney carried on adding a further 60 for the third wicket with Harry scoring 65 and Barney 46 to put us at a commanding 219-4. Contributions from the middle order pushed us up to 246-6. A strong performance with the ball and we bowled Rhydding out for 99. Harry Drake and Jake Liddle took the plaudits with 3-12 and 3-4, Katie with 2-29. Barney and Will took 1 apiece.

We’re delighted to be hosting the North Yorkshire EEP squad at Whixley CC on Thursday.

A special moment for the club as one of our own, Albert Lumb, is proudly representing North Yorkshire.

It would be great to see plenty of support down at the club, so come along and enjoy an excellent day of cricket.
