In view of the excessive heat this week and advice from Bowls Leicestershire, the league matches have been postponed and roll ups on Monday & Wednesday have been cancelled. Temperatures are not forecast to drop until Saturday so a decision will be made later in the week as to whether the friendly match will go ahead. Although this is disappointing, the safety of all players is paramount and the temperatures this week are unprecedented for June.

We had a query from one of our members as to whether we were playing in whites or greys (this refers to the colour of the trousers/shorts for none bowlers). Although we gave a sensible reply, our Chairman commented with this:-

At Whitwick Park the bowlers meet,
Polished woods and tidy feet.
The bowls go rolling, smooth as streams,
While players argue fashion schemes.

“Whites!” cries one, “it’s smart, it’s right,
Like Wimbledon on a summer’s night!”
“Greys!” says another, “be real, be fair,
They hide the stains and wear and tear!”

So half the team looks crisp and bright,
The other half in greys so light.
A puzzled crowd looks on and says,
“Are we playing bowls, or hosting Fifty Shades?”

But win or lose, it’s all the same,
We’re here for friendship, not for fame.
For Whitwick Park’s the place we stay—
In whites, in greys… or both, some days!

Today's presidents day will still go ahead as planned despite the weather, please show your support to the club president Mr Alan McKeown. If bowling is not playable there will be prize bingo refreshments and food. See you there!
