Day 2 of the Yapping Challenge 😂
There isn’t really a Yapping Challenge per se… however, it feels like a great excuse to chat to you!
This yap was prompted by a quote I shared recently:
“If you’re 40 and can fit into a size 6 dress, but when you’re 65 you have osteoporosis — you haven’t won, you’ve been tricked.”
OOOF.
Whenever I start feeling negative about the difference between my actual body fat percentage and where I’d like it to be, AKA when I can’t get my bloody jeans on comfortably 😩 I have to remind myself just how INCREDIBLE my body is and everything it allows me to do.
Because my idea of what my body “should” look like hasn’t appeared from nowhere.
It’s the result of decades of subconscious programming about what women’s bodies should look like, how much space we should take up and what we should be doing to make ourselves smaller.
And there is still this dance between knowing all of that… and looking in the mirror or trying to do my jeans up and thinking, FFS. 😂
But I REFUSE to be drawn back into that old-fashioned narrative.
Calories in, calories out.
Killing myself with cardio.
Restriction.
Shaming an entire food group.
Or falling foul of the latest marketing or corporate wellness trend that promises us the answer but might not actually be good for us at all.
Instead, I’m going to keep prioritising nutrition, muscle, strength and movement, and keep learning from the evidence we now have specifically around women in midlife.
I don't just want a body that looks a certain way.
I want a body that is strong enough to carry me through the next 5 DECADES of my life. ❤️
And when the jeans are tight, I’ll probably still have to remind myself of that!
Please tell me I’m not the only one who does this?!
