Join us for Bart’s Bash on September 13th
The club is taking part in Bart’s Bash on Sunday September 13th with the first race of the afternoon nominated as our participating event.

For those who haven’t taken part before Bart’s Bash is the world’s largest race that takes place annually as a fundraiser in memory of Olympic and America’s Cup sailor who lost his life in a sailing accident.

Monies raised are in support of the Andrew Simpson Foundation which aims to transform lives through sailing and watersports regardless of background.

We will ask for a contribution from sailors on the day or please use:

Join Bart’s Bash, the Andrew Simpson Foundation’s global sailing event, uniting communities worldwide to celebrate Bart’s legacy and raise vital funds. Together we transform lives through sailing and create opportunities for young people everywhere.

The 2026 club championships took place over the August bank holiday weekend – unfortunately Saturday’s racing was blown off but four races were held in challenging conditions over Sunday and Monday.

Overall winners were Mark Barnes and Joe Barton in a Tasar with Harry Newton in his Laser second and Rick and Sarah Perkins third.

Dickie Ledger and Bettina Covac were 4th overall and first small catamaran, William Marsh first under 18 and first Laser radial and Louise Harnett first Topper.

Thanks to all the volunteers – it was a great job by the race team, safety boat team, bar team and Jeremy Scott who played on the deck on Saturday evening.

Congratulations to WYC members Mark Barnes and Jack Kilburn - B14 national champions 2026!

This year’s club championships will take place over the August bank holiday weekend – Race Officer Mark F**g is looking to hold six races, two each day with the first start at 14.00 each day. There are a couple of updates to the standard club sailing instructions outlined in the NOR found via the following link, but in short starts are using the 5 minute sequence and there will a black flag following a general recall.

Last year’s club championships saw a great turnout of 56 starters and a win for Phil Emery and Julie Nuttall’s Merlin on countback from Joe Barton’s Topper. Here’s hoping for an even better turnout and more great racing this year!

Further success for WYC Toppers at Nationals!
Wind and weather wise we had everything at the Topper Nationals this past week in Weymouth. 5 knots to over 20 knots across the course on different days. Thursday and Friday were the 6 race championship after 3 days of qualifying. Spending 3 days qualifying properly allocated the sailors so the resulting fleets were unbelievably close. Ralph Hadley and Jack Taylor sailed in the Gold Fleet and placed 35th (Jack) and 9th (Ralph) overall. As always consistency is best and Jack hit that perfectly. Ralph had to discard an early start (UFD), which used up his only discard, but was in the mix every race. The 5.3 fleet was 105 challenging sailors in total so these are both amazing results. Well done Jack and Ralph.
James Martin qualified in the Silver Fleet and posted the same consistency with all top 10 finishes. James finished 7th overall.

After a short rest break the London and Southeast Autumn Topper Traveller Series starts again on September 5th at Chipstead Sailing Club. Let me know if you would like to go and can help with details.
It was an amazing week in Weymouth. Sadly, for the WYC Toppers, this was the last regatta for Ralph and Jack - they are moving on to ILCA 4’s. Gents - thanks so much for representing WYC so incredibly over the Topper Years and look forward to reporting your ILCA successes going forward including in our fleet at WYC!

The metal transit pole off the club beach has collapsed leave it's timber post some 2 meters above sea bed and is a hazard. A white buoy has been temporarily fixed to the post as a warning. Please keep clear until the metal Transit pole has been re-erected!
