Hey everyone!
I have just completed my Winter Mountain Leader training. It was awesome 😁.
I learnt that I have good skills and that going out on the mountains on my own will help me a little as I work towards attempting the assessment. However, the biggest part of the assessment is group management...how I make decisions, how I look after the group, how I combine the multiple skills of assessing the ground and conditions with having to navigate, maintaining morale and ensuring my group is safe.
With this in mind I am looking for people who go out in summer and want to venture out in winter but don’t know a lot about it. Ideally I would take you out for a couple of days. On the first day I would show you how to use crampons, ice axe, maintain your warmth etc and head up a munro if that’s what you wanted. Day two would be consolidating the experience and knowledge.
What you get out of it? You get the opportunity to learn those skills and experience the Scottish mountains in winter. What I get out of it? Experience and opportunity to get good at what I’ve learnt this week.
I would not be willing to take people out who feel they already know all this because wrestling with ego would be an additional challenge for me that I don’t feel ready for. In summer, no problem, winter...not yet.
If you are interested, or you know someone who might be, and want to know more, please get in touch 😊
