Hey everyone!
I have just completed my Winter Mountain Leader training. It was awesome 😁.

I learnt that I have good skills and that going out on the mountains on my own will help me a little as I work towards attempting the assessment. However, the biggest part of the assessment is group management...how I make decisions, how I look after the group, how I combine the multiple skills of assessing the ground and conditions with having to navigate, maintaining morale and ensuring my group is safe.

With this in mind I am looking for people who go out in summer and want to venture out in winter but don’t know a lot about it. Ideally I would take you out for a couple of days. On the first day I would show you how to use crampons, ice axe, maintain your warmth etc and head up a munro if that’s what you wanted. Day two would be consolidating the experience and knowledge.

What you get out of it? You get the opportunity to learn those skills and experience the Scottish mountains in winter. What I get out of it? Experience and opportunity to get good at what I’ve learnt this week.

I would not be willing to take people out who feel they already know all this because wrestling with ego would be an additional challenge for me that I don’t feel ready for. In summer, no problem, winter...not yet.

If you are interested, or you know someone who might be, and want to know more, please get in touch 😊

Hi everyone! I’m looking for a lad or a lass under 18, preferably nearer 18 though (partner for another lad), for a 3 day trip in the lakes. 2 days climbing and a day on the mountains with a low level grade 1 scramble if the 2 climbing days have shown it would be appropriate. No instructor fees, this is part of my youth development programme. But expenses for camping, possible climbing wall entry and food will need to be paid for 😊

Please let me know 😁

Last weekend’s Scotland 2 day mountain expedition...
Could’ve booked better weather! At times, it was pretty grim but good for nav 😆.

We bagged a munro, wild camped high, saw a great sunset, got pretty wet, learnt about peat bogs and the environmental impact of it’s degredation, learnt/taught some nav, practiced some nav and had a good time 😊. Great weekend.

Didn’t realise when I organised the trip that the munro would be Em’s first, Nige’s third and my seventieth AND, on our way up, we met a guy for whom this was his last munro! Not sure you could plan that 😆. Really enjoyable trip with good company, variable conditions and lots of decision making - great from an ML perspective!

Looking forward to the next one!!

Hi everyone! Just an update...I’m going to Borneo for 4 weeks leading a school expedition with Camps International

What a great opportunity to travel to a new place and spend 4 weeks with a bunch of young people helping them grow and develop and doing something good for the local community whilst we’re at it!

It does mean, however, that I won’t be available to run courses until after 19th August, other than the ones already in the diary (see events list).

It is also likely that I won’t be able to respond to messages until I get back. Please bear with me, I WILL get back to you.

I will be able to respond to messages and make plans for courses until around 21st-22nd July.

If you want to see what I’ll be getting up to check out the Camps International website 🙂.

I’ll share my experiences on here when I get back!

Award-winning volunteer expeditions across Africa, Asia and South America with Camps International. Make an impact and do something amazing!
