Shropshire Doubles League - our Men's team had their final match of the Summer league last Thursday against Woodfield - we put in a strong performance winning 3-1 - well done to Xander, Paul, Josh and Will. Thanks to Woodfield for a fun evening of tennis and after-chat at the The Hanmer Arms

This rounded off a great run at the end of the league, giving us 3rd position overall. Brilliant result and thanks to all the players - Xander, Paul, Will, Josh, Andrew, James, Nick, Ollie and Markus. Special thanks to Nick for organising the games and ensuring we were at the right place at the right time.

Gwenan Shield - on the 15th August we held our Club doubles competition in memory of Gwenan Mottershead. There was a great turn out, 16 players plus several platters of strawberry-based treats! We played some round-robin groups to find our semi-finalists (Lucy/Josh, Xander/Helen, Shirley/Rachel, Marje/Stu) with Lucy/Josh and Marje/Stu winning through to the final where Lucy & Josh took the Title. Well done to them, thank you to everyone who came along including our wonderfully supportive 'landlady', Lady Sally Kenyon.

Gwenan Shield Competition
This Saturday, 15th August, we're holding our annual doubles competition for members of Hanmer Tennis Club.

Starting at 2pm, intended for our older junior and adult players, it will be random pairs, playing short sets to determine our Champion for 2026.

Come and have a go, perhaps just pop by to say 'hi' - we look forward to seeing you at the Club.

Results update - Thursday night brought us some great tennis - Town Walls came to play Hanmer in the return fixture and, after having been beaten 4-0 away, we knew we'd been in for a tough challenge again. We had a slightly different line-up this time, bringing in Ollie and Josh, and they performed brilliantly. Having shared the first 2 rubbers, the nerves were high (in the audience at least) as the final 2 rubbers each got to 9-9 in the championship tie-breaks but Hanmer managed to get the next 2 points in both matches and we took the victory 3-1! 3 of the 4 rubbers were decided by championship tie-breaks, each with a 11-9 final score, meaning that a few points going the other way would have meant a 3-1 loss - incredibly close - thanks to Town Walls for such a great battle. Well played Josh, Ollie, Xander and Will.

Next Shropshire league match is this evening, at home against the Shrewsbury Town Walls Club, starting at 6.30pm. Best of luck to Ollie, Xander, Will and particularly Josh who has only just joined the Club and has been thrown into the deep end! COME ON HANMER!!!

Results update - the Men's first team secured a 2-2 draw against Telford on Monday, improving on the loss last time the teams met. Well played Will, James, Xander and Paul.

Our first team did do better against Market Drayton than when they played away from home but didn't quite pull off the win - congratulations to Xander, Paul, Will and James on their 2-2 draw.

They go again tomorrow evening, away against the league leaders, Telford Tennis and Padel. Best of luck team.

Wimbledon starts TOMORROW!! The perfect time to get on court.

Our coaching partner, We Do Tennis, are offering some free sessions this Tuesday - scan the QR code below and sign up to a free lesson.

Alternatively, come and join us for a friendly, low stress hit at Club night on Monday or Wednesday, from 7pm. We have a men's doubles match on Thursday evening and we'd love to have some local support so please come down and cheer us on between 6.30 and 9pm.

Following the win at Woodfield the week started well but it turned out better than we could imagine - Bill Barlow, our oldest member, returned to play at the Club after heart surgery! It was fantastic to see him on the courts again. Welcome back Bill!

Results update - we travelled away to Shrewsbury on the 22nd June to play Woodfield on their infamous carpet. In the heat we battled hard and came out 3-1 winners - congratulations to Marcus, James, Xander and Paul.

We go again this Thursday 2nd July, seeking revenge on Market Drayton - they beat us 3-1 on their courts; can we do better at home?

Come down and give the team a cheer, match goes from about 6.30 to 9.30pm - hope to see you there.
