We managed to sneak a day out yesterday with our group.
Regulars and one newcomer to the boat on board.

We ran North to start our day and dropped on a wreck just 2.5 miles from land to see if the water was looking any better clarity wise. Unfortunately it wasn’t and we only took a couple of Pouting from it so we headed out a bit and dropped on another bit of scrap on the 4.5 mile stream.
Still no better!

Choices, choices, where to go?

I’d got an idea that the bloom was in the water on our last trip off before yesterday and the clarity below wasn’t very good.

The thing with the bloom is that it has a tendency to drift about in patches and if you’re lucky enough you can occasionally find some clearer water.
Seems like the clarity was down everywhere we went with just an odd fish here and there.

By lunchtime we probably only had 15 or so fish on board to keep.

At 1.0pm the breeze swung round to the South and basically stopped the boat from moving at all which made the lines a bit awkward for us so we dropped back in to some ground 4 miles East of the harbour to try and catch a bit more tide and get the boat moving a bit.

This turned out to be our best stop of the day and we picked around there for a half hour until home time.
We found fish there on the shads too so the water was certainly better there.

Another enjoyable day albeit a bit wet again for a few hours.

The weekend looks like it’s going to be a wipe out with yet more fresh winds from the WNW.

We needs the jet stream to get back up to the North of the country to allow some more high pressures to build and get rid of these Atlantic systems.

Anyway,
Cheers for now everyone and have a good weekend.

Rich.

If Wimbledon had had the rain we had yesterday morning they would definitely have cancelled the games! 😂

3 hours of monumental rain fell on us to start off the days sport, but us rufty tufty North Sea tigers aren’t put off! 😃

A mixed group of 6 lads came for their day out hoping to get a few fish with us.

I’d explained that I thought we had some bloom around at the moment and that fishing wasn’t at its best but we did our best as ever.
Regular angler on the boat, Chris Siddle ended up having a dozen fish himself which is a nice show.
He was fishing the baited rigs all day with an extra sneaky tweek!
Some time back a group of 4 lads (Marcin and his mates) who come up from London to fish with us were working their bottom gear with small flashing light attached to their rigs, which looked like fish’s eyes!
He’d bought some himself and boy did they work well on the morning tide!

Glenn Stocks, another one of our regulars bagged around 7 fish for the table. Most of his caught on the artificial lures (maybe not too murky on the bottom)

3 lads from Selby, Rob Moore and his mates who we’ve not seen for a while were with us too and shared a few fish to take back and we also had Mel C with us too! Not the Spice Girl, but a wonderful chap from Melton Mowbray.
Mel’s good lady had kindly gifted us with some goodies including the famous pie, a cracking fruit cake and some Stilton to go with it! Thanks for that. Really appreciated.

The fishing wasn’t at its best as I’ve said, but we had a great day out there, even though we got saturated in the morning! 😂
Great to sail with you all lads and we’ll see you all again soon.
All the best,
Cheers
Rich

Yesterday’s team of anglers were from Preston, Lancashire.

The team of four, Steve, Billy, Tony and Paul are seasoned anglers who fish all over the place and are seldom away from the water on a weekend.

Yesterday was the lads first time with us on the Shy-Torque III.

Great conditions again but sadly a bit of a struggle to get amongst any decent fishing any time throughout the trip.

We tried everything known to us to try and tempt them but to no avail.
Just an odd fish here and there with the lads tallying around 15 fish to keep for the day.

Heaviest fish for the day was a half decent Ling which I caught on one of the many ledges we tried over the day.
A few ounces over 14lb, caught on a 6” rhubarb and custard sidewinder.
Great sport I must say!

We were back in the harbour for 3.30pm and I had the fish filleted off for the lads before they left.

A real pleasure meeting you lads and I look forward to seeing you again on your next trip in September.
Hopefully some better fishing for you then lads where we’ll try and find you that winning festival fish 🙏🏼

Not a very exciting report I know, but when things are on the slow side it’s hard to invent words to spice it up!
It is what it is as they say.

Cheers
Rich.

Great to see some old friends from Grimsby today.

Rich Webster, his Dad Steve and his young son George came up for the day with three of their friends.

The day started out with no wind whatsoever and it remained that way until just after noon.

Because the inshore forecasts weren’t the best we were a bit reluctant to steam off to the distance marks where we have been finding some reasonable fishing and played around on the more inshore marks.

Hand on heart, it was a struggle today and we only managed around a dozen fish on the boat plus a number of undersized fish.
The lads know the drill though as they are all seasoned sailors.
Rich and his Dad have boats down on the Humber.
Rich uses his mainly for anchor work (Uptiding) on the river.

The breeze freshened on behind the tide around 13.30hrs and the drift was up to just over two knots making it virtually unfishable, so home it was.

The lads will be returning for some more fishing on the smaller tides soon.
Cheers lads,
Rich.

After my wonderful family, my main passions in life are angling and motorcycling.

Both of them are fantastic hobbies when the sun is shining and the temperatures are up!
I have to say though, when the sea state is perfectly flat calm, the tides are right and the fish are feeding well, this job really can’t be beaten.
Today was one of those fishing days where everything fell in place perfectly for the mornings work.

Our mixed group of lads were treat to some great fishing at the start of the day and the first two wrecks we worked kept us busy for a good 3 hours or so.

My motorcycling mate Mick Jones from Chesterfield is up for a few days visiting and he has been out with us to help on the boat over the last couple of days. I was really pleased he was too as it was a bit hectic for us at times!!

Regulars, Bill Barraclough and Si England having a really good morning and knocked a slack fish box of fish out between them.
Great fishing lads!

Newcomer on the boat, young Alfie from Bedale was on his maiden boat trip with his Dad Ben and he managed half a dozen for himself which he was very pleased with.

Paul and Pete from Durham picked away throughout the day and managed a dozen between them. Most of their fish was caught on the baited rigs.
Squid being the best bait.

The bait fishing certainly out fishing the lures today.

A good few Codling of a reasonable stamp too today with fish nudging 8lb for Bill from Barnsley.

Tally for the day, a very nice 60+ fish to keep.

A truly wonderful day at sea with another great group of lads.
Thanks for sailing with us.

Summer has arrived at last! Even warm at sea!!

What a beautiful day out there today for our team.

We sailed on a flat calm sea and unlike yesterday where it turned shabby from the SE, it remained that way all day.

It was a day of two halves for us today and the fishing on the morning flood tide was far from easy for us with the light draught from the WNW at the back of the tide speeding the drift up to nearly 1.5 knots which, as most of you know, is too quick for drift fishing.
It was definitely a waiting game.

As the tide eased back towards noon, so did the draught and the boat speed slowed sharpish.

We ran a few miles South to drop on a piece of scrap for the last half hour of tide and to work it over slack.

The lads picked an odd fish each drift with nothing startling really, but if we took a fish or two each run we would be ok.
Half a dozen runs over it and we probably took 15 fish from it, the best one falling to one of our regular anglers, Glenn Stocks from Sheffield. A lovely Cod nudging the scales at 10lbs. Nice one mate!

Once the scrap had dried up we moved inshore a little to finish the day off on a strip of ground I favour on the Ebb tide.

The lads kept up their efforts and we picked up another 10 or so Codling to round the day off.

My Dad always used to say to me, “When you’re out there on a glassy calm sea, there’s no better place to be and if you catch a fish it’s a bonus”
No truer words Dad (God rest your soul)

Today was one of those. Not a “red letter” day by far, but a fabulous one nonetheless!

Thanks to one and all on board as ever,
Great to see you.

Rich.
