🌊 What a Week It’s Been Onboard Alexia II! 🌊
The past week has been one of those rare periods at sea that reminds us why we love what we do. With perfect weather conditions and neap tides, we’ve enjoyed some of the best sea conditions imaginable — the water has quite literally resembled a sheet of glass for most of the week. These conditions don’t come around often, but they are always very welcome.
Early in the week we were running our popular 3-hour Family Fun Taster Sessions, and Dan has been working tirelessly as we move into the busiest part of the season. The trips proved very productive, with cod, haddock, mackerel and a variety of other species making regular appearances. The mackerel are now showing in excellent numbers, providing fantastic sport for both adults and youngsters alike.
From Thursday through to Saturday, we had full-boat bookings for our 8-hour wreck fishing trips. With conditions near perfect, Dan was eager to get the anglers onto the wrecks in search of some serious action.
As always, we made a stop at the Bell Buoy on the way out to collect fresh mackerel for bait — a tactic that consistently pays dividends, particularly when targeting ling.
🎣 Thursday
The day started slowly, with two or three wrecks producing very little. A move further south and a few miles farther offshore transformed the session, and for the final couple of hours the fishing came alive, with three and four fish per drift turning a quiet day into a real frenzy.
🎣 Friday
Friday was the best day of the week. Every wreck produced, several fish a drift, the sport was chaotic at times, the fish were coming up quicker than Dan could get round with the net. The lads left with a great haul of fish for the day.
🎣 Saturday
Saturday was very hit and miss, we picked up a few fish drifting the ground but the wrecks seemed to just switch off, only producing an odd fish per drift, the lads still all managed a few fish, but it was nothing like the previous days, hard work to be fair.
The north easterlies were moving in, so can only assume that affected the fishing, or they just simply weren’t feeding.
Thats fishing i suppose.

Next few days are sadly cancelled due to north easterlies. 😩

Over the week we had

Ling
10–11 lb

Cod to
9 lb

Po***ck to
5 lb

Wolf fish
3 lb
Returned before a photo

We also had several quality haddock, and with so many fish coming over the rails, a good number were returned to fight another day.
🪝 What Worked Best?
Anglers enjoyed success on a range of methods:
Shads
Hokkais
Baited muppet rigs
Squid and fresh mackerel baits
All methods produced fish, although the baited muppet rigs just edged it overall.

🌬 Looking Ahead
Unfortunately, today’s wreck trip had to be cancelled due to strengthening north-easterly winds, so it looks like we may have a few days off while the weather settles.

We managed a few days over the wrecks over the last few days, the water is still very green in places, even pushing offshore, didnt seem to make a difference in clarity.
We seemed to hit a fish or two then then the wreck would go quiet, so we spent the days moving around , covering several wrecks, and patches of ground picking up odd fish here and there.
Not prolific by any means and hard work, algae bloom really does make it hard work, but we pushed on through it and got all our anglers on a few fish.
Biggest fish was a ling, just over 11lb, caught by regular Don loasby. we also had cod to 6lb, po***ck to 4lb and plenty of small haddock’s, which were all returned.
We tried a mixture of baited muppet rigs, hokkais and shads, there wasn’t really a stand out method.
All trips are subject to weather conditions.
We always cancel trips the evening before, so please don’t bombard us with messages, two weeks before your trip, asking how’s the weather looking, seems to be a trend of late.

ALEXIA 2, Whitby update.

🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣🐟🐟

It’s been a while since we posted an update.
During the month of may we have been busy, with our usual, 8hr wreck fishing trips, and 3 hr family fun beginner taster sessions.
The fishing over the month of may, has been fairly steady and consistent.
All trips have saw a good picking if codling, ling, haddock, and many other species.
Nothing huge, but good sport for everyone onboard.
Last week, the whole week was spent on 3hr family fun taster trips, during the whit, half term school break.
A glorious week of weather and sea like a sheet of glass for the majority of the week, was very much welcomed.
Even a few mackerel started making an appearance.
We always look forward to these trips and the smiles it puts on the kids, faces when catching fish for the first time.
Dan really does do a good job, getting them used to using the gear correctly and teaching them the basics, not only using the equipment, but also how to handle and care for the fish they catch, as majority gets returned.

Dan has now also completed all the mandatory bluefin tuna training, and is chomping at the bit, to get back out and get anglers onto the fish of a lifetime.
Great thanks to Kevin lavis, crusader charters for the excellent in depth training.

We have availability throughout may on both 3 hr taster trips and our 8 hr wreck fishing trips.
We also have very limited days availble on our bluefin tuna trips.
All availability can be found and booked online
@ www.whitbyfishingtrips.co.uk.

Alternatively you can call us on

Please note all undersize fish are returned,
Although legal size for cod is 35cm, we always recommend anglers only keep, cod over 45cm if there wanting to take home some of there catch.
We always encourage, returning smaller fish.
