ALEXIA 2, Whitby update.

It’s been a while since we posted an update.
During the month of may we have been busy, with our usual, 8hr wreck fishing trips, and 3 hr family fun beginner taster sessions.
The fishing over the month of may, has been fairly steady and consistent.
All trips have saw a good picking if codling, ling, haddock, and many other species.
Nothing huge, but good sport for everyone onboard.
Last week, the whole week was spent on 3hr family fun taster trips, during the whit, half term school break.
A glorious week of weather and sea like a sheet of glass for the majority of the week, was very much welcomed.
Even a few mackerel started making an appearance.
We always look forward to these trips and the smiles it puts on the kids, faces when catching fish for the first time.
Dan really does do a good job, getting them used to using the gear correctly and teaching them the basics, not only using the equipment, but also how to handle and care for the fish they catch, as majority gets returned.

Dan has now also completed all the mandatory bluefin tuna training, and is chomping at the bit, to get back out and get anglers onto the fish of a lifetime.

Please note all undersize fish are returned,
Although legal size for cod is 35cm, we always recommend anglers only keep, cod over 45cm if there wanting to take home some of there catch.
We always encourage, returning smaller fish.

Today’s wreck fishing report onboard, Alexia 11.

Today we had half a boat load of regulars aboard. With the neap tides, and pretty much perfect forecast, we head offshore to try a wreck or two on the 18 mile stream.

Usually when the tides ease and it’s perfect for wreck fishing the weather tends to turn foul, so the recent forecast has even very much welcomed.

We left Whitby harbour at 6.30am, and after just short of a two hour steam we finally arrived at our chosen wreck.

First drift and 4 out of 6 rods straight in,
this continued for a good few hours, picking away every drift.
Squid baited muppet traces, hokkais, all the usual lures, the fish certainly weren’t been fussy today.
A great few hours sport for the lads.
Sadly nothing huge, but a good few around the 5lb mark and a good mixture of cod and ling. we lost count of the amount of fish coming over the rails.
All fish under 45cm were put back due to the better stamp of fish coming over the rails.

It’s safe to say the wrecks are certainly springing into life, and very much welcomed after a poor winter season.

Great to finally get a few regulars out onto some good sport, with the usual banter making for an even better day.

We will be wreck fishing.
Tides are ideal and weather looking good.

All trips require a deposit so it’s much easier to use the online booking system were possible.

Been great to see kids out fishing with us over the past couple of weeks, enjoying some great fun, many catching for the first time.
Nothing huge caught sadly, but a mixture of , codling, whiting, pouting, haddock, majority of which was returned. These trips are great for teaching beginners the basic skills needed and catching something on these trips always keeps them entertained and helps with the learning process, and the smiles when these kids catch there first fish is always great to see.

I also keep getting messages from customers with bluefin tuna trips booked with us for this year, with regards do we have a licience yet.
The answer is nobody does at the moment. The application for this years fishery is in and closes. Midnight monday, so once tbe applications have been processed, if successful there is new mandotaory training both online and on the boat for all applicants this year, so once we have more info, we will update in due course.
Everyone is in the same boat, im afraid.

3hr family fun fishing trip taster sessions onboard alexia 11.
Trips are running daily,
10am till 1pm and 1pm till 4pm.
All equipment provided aswell as tution and help throughout, so no need to worry if you have never been sea fishing.
Adults £30pp.
Kids £25pp.
Next trips are tomorrow Wednesday 1st April at 10am.

Due to a time waster our offshore 105 is still available.
We’ve ran her as a charter boat out of Whitby for the last 8 years but we have now have our new boat running trips so sadly she has to go.
Cummins 6bta, been serviced every 200 hrs and never missed a beat.
We’ve done around 4000 hours since owning her and total engine hours are around 6000 hrs.
She’s in need of a good clean up, all cosmetic, and engine bay could do with a good steam.
Had a complete new nidaplast deck around 5 years ago and all window frames refurbished new rubbers etc two years ago.
Basic electronics onboard, and raymarine radar, siewa explorer 3 potter and sounder.
X2 300ltr fuel tanks.
Due 5 year coding 28th march this year, all the safety gear is onboard, and a couple of jobs to bring it inline with the new code and it will go through again no problems, words of my surveyor.
Shortened wheel house so ample deck space.
Forward cabin with large double bunk with storage underneath.
With a clean bum will push 18knots
Cruises at 10knots at 1600 rpm.
Excellent stable platforms and a great boat for someone to take on her next journey.

Today we had regular farther and son team, Bill and james Ellis, charter the boat . After hearing about the new boat up and running Alexia 2, they were keen as mustard this morning.
After yesterday’s maiden voyage, and a very poor days fishing, we were hoping the cod would show in greater numbers. Armed with quality black lug and squid baits, Dan head south, Bill and James are veteran anglers and once the boat was under anchor, there gear was out and it wasn’t long before the first cod was over the rails. The fishing was consistent and not long after dinner Bill called it, after been more than happy with there catch, which was just aswell as the forecasted south easterly wind had whipped up.
It just goes to show how fishing can change one day to the next, struggled yesterday and today the bites were thick and fast.
Sadly no double figures today but surprisingly, all of a similar weight around the 3 to 4lb mark.
Great to see bill and James again, it’s always a pleasure.
