We have bowed off!
Due to lack of student numbers and if I’m honest a lack of enthusiasm from us as instructors this week seemed like the right time to hold our last lesson. It was 38 years ago when I began training joining my mother who had started a few years before. It was about 10 years later when we with other senior club members took on the running of the club. Lots of memories have being made since then, I’ll share some in a later post perhaps. For now we would like for thank everyone who has ever trained with his or brought their child to train with us for being part of a big part of our lives.

Let me know if you are happy for me to continue posting here or if any other social media outlets would be better, how about setting up a Messenger or WhatsApp group?

We would be training tonight so here are a few things for you to have a go at, let me know how you are getting on hand if there is anything that you want me to cover in the future.

Warm up, include but don’t limit to;

Hand and foot crawl forward and back 4 laps
No hand stand ups x 10 (start on your back and get to a tall standing position without using your hands, return to your back without using your hands, repeat)
10 good quality press-ups
20 good quality sit-ups
40 good quality squats

Kata

Practice 3 different kata, if you don’t know three then practice what you know. Practice the moves well, execute them fully in the correct stances before moving onto the next. No need to put in tons of effort and speed just ensure the positions are correct. Practicing kata at home can be difficult due to the lack of space but in reality you wont be in control of the space you have in which to defend yourself you will have to adapt. I have posted a video of myself practicing Pinan Sandan (the kids are getting better at filming)

Happy Mother’s Day to all the karate Mums out there, I know it’s not always easy getting your kids to training but I do hope it’s always worth it. Have a great day and hope you get spoilt. Don’t forget to wash your hands and stay at home.
