We want to wish our President and first ever Club Captain TOMMY GENTLEMAN THE best of luck.
Tomorrow he takes on a world record attempt. Here in his words he explains why:
“I’ve got 1 hour to get more than 150 conversions through the sticks (156 is what I’m gunning for) from 3 specific kicking points. One kick at a time.
But this isn’t about me. It’s about them.
156 young people die every 3 months from undiagnosed heart conditions. That’s 12 a week.
I’d just like a minute to share the reasons for this event, and explain the situation that we are facing.
This event is for all of the families just like mine that have been affected by this. More heart screenings and more heart health awareness = that number coming down and more lives saved.
With the help and generosity of support partners and generous companies and individuals, I have raised £17.5k of the £21k target.
£21k gets us 3 heart screening events all paid for and free for families to screen their kids, or young adults to get peace of mind.
It’s common that at least 1 heart condition is detected at these screenings. So that’ll be at least 1 life saved at each event and 1 family that won’t have to go through the pain of losing a loved one unexpectedly.
We’ve seen high profile cases in sports people, but we don’t often hear about the young lad or girl that was just going about their every day life, or the young parent, the recently married, the best mate, the neighbour, the sister or in my case, the Brother.
