Most people are familiar with the Reformer now, but it's only one part of the Pilates studio. At The Pilates Hub you'll also find the Cadillac, Wunda Chair, Ladder Barrel and quite a few other weird and wonderful-looking things. 😄

Each piece of equipment gives us something slightly different. We can use them to provide support, resistance, feedback or challenge, depending on what we're trying to achieve and who we're working with.

Sometimes an exercise that doesn't quite make sense to your body on one piece of equipment can suddenly click on another. That's one of the things I love about working in a fully equipped Pilates studio: we have so many different ways to explore movement rather than simply making exercises harder and harder.

The Reformer might be the piece of Pilates equipment everyone knows, but there's a lot more to Pilates than the Reformer.

Knowing the exercise isn't the same as knowing how to teach it.

When we qualify as Pilates teachers, we learn repertoire. As we become more experienced, we usually learn even more of it. But knowing lots of exercises isn't necessarily what makes someone a better teacher.

The real skill is understanding why you're choosing an exercise for the person in front of you and what you're hoping to achieve with it. It's noticing what's happening as they move and deciding whether to progress something, adapt it or simply give them more time with it.

Sometimes the best teaching decision isn't to add another exercise at all. That's a lot of what we explore in Beyond The Repertoire. It's less about accumulating more repertoire and more about developing the thinking, observation and decision-making that sits behind good Pilates teaching.

Progress doesn't always mean making it harder.

In Pilates, progress can look like adding more resistance or moving on to a more challenging exercise.

But it can also mean using less support. Finding more range. Moving with better control. Or noticing that something which once required a lot of concentration now feels quite natural.

Sometimes the exercise doesn't need to change at all.

Good Pilates isn't about constantly chasing the next difficult thing. It's about knowing when, why and how to progress what you're already doing.
And sometimes, doing the simple things really well is where the challenge is.

Another part of my work that I don’t talk about enough is Beyond The Repertoire.
I created BTR for qualified Pilates teachers who want to develop their teaching beyond learning more exercises.
Because knowing the repertoire is only part of becoming a confident, thoughtful teacher.
Beyond The Repertoire gives you the time and space to explore how and why you teach. We look at movement, individual bodies, Pilates principles and the choices we make when planning and adapting sessions.
Each monthly session includes:
• an in depth teaching topic
• an exercise masterclass
• practical integration of the Pilates fundamentals
It is a small, supportive group where you can ask questions, explore ideas and keep developing as a teacher long after your initial qualification has finished.
I’m opening a small number of places for qualified Mat and Reformer teachers who would like to join us this autumn.
If you’d like to know more, send me a message with the words Beyond The Repertoire.

I’ve been a little quiet on here recently, so it feels like a good time to reintroduce The Pilates Hub and what we do.
We offer small, specialist Pilates sessions in our fully equipped Clitheroe studio. With no more than four people in a session, your Pilates is adapted to your body, your experience and what you need from it.
You might be looking to:
• build strength and move with more confidence
• return to exercise following injury or surgery
• manage an ongoing back, joint or mobility problem
• progress beyond a standard group Pilates class
We currently have a small number of regular weekly spaces available, including a Monday evening space and some daytime availability.
Everyone begins with a Fundamentals and Assessment Session so that we can understand your body, your movement and which session would suit you best.
If you’re curious about whether The Pilates Hub could be right for you, send me a message or book a free 15 minute Discovery Call.

I’ve been exploring cold water therapy a little more deeply recently.
I’m doing it to understand how to approach it in a way that feels safe and supportive.
Because this isn’t about how long you can stay in,
or pushing yourself to the limit.
It’s about safety.
It’s about understanding how the body responds to stress,
and knowing how to support it rather than override it.
For many women, there’s already been years of pushing through,
holding it all together,
and ignoring what the body is asking for.
So if I’m going to bring this into my work,
it needs to feel calm, considered, and genuinely supportive.
This training is giving me a really strong foundation for that.
And I’m really excited to start sharing this with you over the coming months.

Come back to feeling like you again.

January doesn’t have to be about pushing harder or starting over.
Sometimes it’s simply about coming home to your body — feeling steadier, stronger, and more at ease in yourself.
At The Pilates Hub, we work with women who want to move well, feel supported, and rebuild confidence in their bodies — whether that’s after injury, surgery, or just the wear and tear of a busy life.
Our Pilates Clinic and Pilates PT sessions offer the benefits of private Pilates, with the encouragement and warmth of a small group. Thoughtful teaching, plenty of guidance, and space to move at your own pace.
If you’re ready to feel more comfortable in your body again, let’s have a chat.
