🏏 Results for the Weekend 🏏
Saturday started with the 1st XI heading to Fleetwood in a rain affected game. After losing the toss on a green seamer and batting in the rain for over an hour, despite Hamish’s resilience scoring runs against Fleetwood yet again, we crumbled to 82 all out. The bowling innings started well with Denty taking 2 wickets as well as the pro Salpietro (with an assist by Levi). Unfortunately the rain came down, and by the time we could get back on, they had already chased the DLS score so we had to go and play for 1 ball.
The 2s beat top of the league for the 2nd time this season (not Tarleton both times). We kept them to just 123 thanks to Ed and Toby both taking 3fer and the ever reliable Ditchy taking 2. Charlie got the lads off to a flyer hitting his first ball for 6 and with contributions from almost everyone, motm Ed and Sam Haworth guided the lads home to a 5 wicket victory to keep survival hopes alive!
Monday’s much awaited trip to Barrow-in-Furness was a good one. We got the fun bus up and the fun continued as Cammy lost another toss, which was a stroke of tactical brilliance. What looked like a belting wicket ended up playing somewhat inconsistently and Levi bowled his best ever Whalley spell to take career best figures of 8/44 backed up by Denty’s quality 2fer on a pitch that didn’t suit him as much. In a tough chase of 72 Frankie whacked his way to 50 scoring about 36 runs over cover and mid off, calmly guided home alongside Chez on first team red ball debut! This secured the boys survival as we now look up in the league with this weekend leaving the 1sts in 5th place and 2 points behind 4th! 🔵
