UPDATE FROM TEAM MASTFELL

After almost 3 amazing years of sailing together Team Mastfell are calling time on our campaign. This is a pretty emotional post to write as we both loved sailing with each other and have been through a lot together over the past few years. Some of our highlights include winning a race in silver fleet Euros, our standout first season in 2019 and 4th at the Medemblik Allianz Regatta after a long break from competition due to Covid. We both agree that our team bond was one of our biggest strengths and we will remain firm friends and each other’s biggest supporters in the future! However even the best things don’t last forever and we move onto new and exciting adventures, whether that is within sailing or through other pursuits!

We want to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to all of the people that have made this possible and have been a part of our campaign over the last few years. In particular .k and for believing in us.

We also want to thank the legend for his unwavering support for us as a coach and the other girls in the P24 FX squad .sailing who constantly pushed us in training. Thank you as well to everyone else who supported our journey especially all our friends and family.

Future plans…

Bella hopes to continue her Olympic campaign and is on the hunt for a new crew so be sure to keep an eye out for her next moves whether that is in the FX or another class.

Alice will continue to work with the women’s sports trust and meets her mentor next week that will help guide her through life after sport. She will also continue to coach the 29er Class as Head coach with big events such as the worlds coming up. More excitingly though she starts her new job in September training to be a Chartered Surveyor at a South Coast firm. Hopefully our sailing paths cross again and you might see her out in an Elite, 800 or any other boat in the future!

4th at the World Sailing Allianz Regatta!

Medemblik delivered challenging conditions and close racing at the top of the fleet which was a contrast to the wind and waves we experienced in Cascais. The week had its up and downs with our first medal race, our first taste of wearing bibs and some big improvements in areas we’ve been working on. A very promising start to the season and its reassuring to know our winter in Weymouth has pushed us in the right direction.

Our time in Weymouth has come to an end! We were very fortunate to keep on training throughout the winter and surprised ourselves with the motivation we found to launch on the coldest days. But now our time has come to finally venture abroad and find some other boats! .sailing are driving the kit out for a Cascais block, where we will join them and in May after Bella has completed her second year of University. None of this would be possible without

We have exciting team news! Alice has been fortunate enough to be involved in the Women’s Sports Trust which launches today! Alice is passionate about encouraging young female sailors to keep progressing through their sailing careers and creating an equal environment for all athletes. It is extremely inspiring being surrounded by many successful female athletes and we can’t wait to see what the rest of the programme involves

If you’ve all been wondering what we have been up to over the last few weeks, here you go. We’ve been working hard in the gym, studying hard and trying to get lots of hours on the water in our favourite place, weybizia. Our special forte is the “helm to crew swap over tack” we haven’t quite perfected it yet, but we can’t wait to put it to use on the race course.

Yesterday we had a fun day out with testing the 5/16” smarttune and smartlink nano. We are excited to work with them for our 2024 campaign and develop useful data to aid our success!
