Handicap Final 2026

12th March 2026
Preston E won the Handicap Cup last night beating Park District Lions in a closely fought final played at the Frank Reynolds Community Centre.

Preston E team consisted of Billy Blackmore, Samuel Holden, and Louis Callaby-Jackson with Captain Roger Prideaux choosing to sit on the subs bench. Park District Lions went with their Captain Ray Cody along with Moses Lewis and Will Jolliffe.

Preston E enjoyed a big total handicap allowance of 297 against PDL allowance of 27 points and they made it count. PDL knew they had a challenge on their hands when Billy secured a total of 17 points over the 4 legs in the first match of the evening against Ray. The challenge for Park got even tougher when young Louis nearly took the second leg of Will losing 11-10 but he secured an impressive 21 points total in that match. He also put in a very good against Moses with a total of 20 points. Young Louis is one to watch for the future. Billy won the Cup for Preston E in the penultimate match against Moses with a solid 20 points . Samuel put the icing on the cake in the final match of the night by adding 14 points to the total. The final score was Preston E 439 and PDL 423.

Preston E are worthy winners of the Handicap Cup but lot of credit also goes to Lions for reaching the final despite giving teams in lower divisions big starts. PDL's desire to do well in the competition is to be applauded and good for the Handicap Cip. The final shows the benefit of having a Handicap Cup competition whereby a team languishing at the bottom of Div 3 can reach the final against a team top of Div 1 and win. The biggest benefit is giving lower division teams, particularly young players , an opportunity to play against the best players in the league.

On 17th December we held our 3rd Annual Doubles Tournament.

32 players (a record) assembled at Club to compete.

Players were ranked and paired in a way to ensure everyone had an equitable chance of success if they played to their potential.

The evening started with 16 pairs on 4x tables competing in the group stage of the competition. This meant each pairing played 3 matches over 4 sets with the top pair from each group moving forward to the semi final stage.

The overwhelming majority of games (sets) were separated by just 1 or 2 points in many ‘nail biting’ matches. The standard of play was very high which demonstrates the progress everyone has made since joining the Club.

Once the group stage was completed we had a break for festive nibbles and drinks followed by the semi finals and ‘fun’ TT challenges for those who didn’t make it through to the final stages.

More than 20 participants stayed to watch the final between Tracey S & Simon G-M vs Tony J & John McK, with Tracey & Simon eventually coming out the winners in a fiercely fought high quality match.

All in all, a thoroughly fantastic and enjoyable evening of festive TT and a suitable end to yet another successful year at the Club.

Thank you to everyone who took part & helped to make this event such a year’s end highlight.

Also special thanks to Andy, Steve J & Steve C for all their hard work in making this event so memorable.

1st 🥇: Simon and Tracey!

Annual Club Singles Tournament 2025

On Wednesday (28th May) we held our annual handicapped singles tournament at the Club.

20 of our members took part in what was an amazing night of exciting, high quality & extremely competitive table tennis.

The handicap system meant the overwhelming majority of games were closely fought affairs with most going to 5 sets, many of which were decided by just one or 2 points.

After the group stage, the 5x group winners together with the 3x highest 2nd placed players went through to the quarter finals. After more hard fought & very close games, we were left with 4x very worthy semifinalists.

The semis paired Baz C vs Sam H & Sam L vs Simon G-M.

Both of these matches were fiercely contested with Baz using his newly acquired (but not yet fully mastered) long pimples, up against the consistent attacking play that Sam H had successfully used all night. The match went in favour of Sam by a single point in a ‘nail biting’ deciding set.

Sam L & Simon had a full-on ‘action packed’, high speed & high spin match with no quarter given by either player. Simon (being marginally more consistent than Sam L) secured his place in the final.

An indication of how close most matches were on the night, the group stage didn’t finish until 9.30pm & the evening itself didn’t finish until well after 10pm. This was over an hour after our planned finish time & too late for me & Andy to go for a ‘cheeky pint’ afterwards! 🥴

The final between Sam H & Simon will be played at Club on the night of our AGM on Wednesday 18th June.

I hope everyone enjoyed the event, which proved yet again to be a highlight of the Club calendar.

I look forward to seeing you all on Wednesday 18th June to see what promises to be a fantastic final, participate in the AGM & enjoy playing socially on the night.
