A few pictures taken at the prize giving event for the UK Cherub and the International Canoe Class Nationals at CCSC.

The IC’s have a particularly spectacular array of trophies including the second most historic sailing trophy presented in 1886 by Warrington Baden Powell (bother of the founder of the scouts) for sailing canoes. They also present the Lough Erne Challenge Cup which first presented to the Belfast Rowing Club in 1895!

So the National Champion for the IC class for 2026 had a lot of historic silverware to take home with him. Congratulations to Glen Truswell sailing Tiger.

Congratulations also to The UK Cherub National Champions Paul Croote and Andy Whapshot in Marmite!

It was also great to see some of our members recognised for their efforts in competing in a National Championship well done to all of you. Both classes shared their appreciation for the efforts of the volunteers who made this event run smoothly on and off of the water and our Race Officer Peter Aitken also gave his thanks to a great team effort.

CCSC is hosting the 75th UK Cherub Nationals this week alongside the International Canoe Class National event.

The event started today in ideal sailing conditions in Portland Harbour.

We welcome all who have entered and hope you have some exciting racing. Best of luck to our enthusiastic members who are taking part and thank you to club volunteers both on and off the water.

CCSC is hosting the 75th National Championship of the UK Cherub Class from the 6th - 9th August in conjunction with the National Championship for the International Canoe Class.

The UK Cherub is a lightweight 12 foot racing dinghy sailed by 2 people. It has twin trapezes and an asymmetric spinnaker

By contrast the International Canoe is a single handed dinghy that is shaped like a canoe, but incorporates a sliding seat that allows the sailor to hike out to windward to balance the boat.

We have members who are talented in sailing both of these types of dinghies who are looking forward to some competitive sailing in their classes.

We aim to host one national championship each year and all of the organisation and running of these events is managed by CCSC volunteers. Part of our club membership is actively taking part in volunteering .

We are looking forward to welcoming everyone who is taking part.

As we come to the end of 2025 it was great to hold a very successful open event last weekend.

Congratulations to Graham and William Cook from Lyme Regis Sailing Club for taking first place in their Fireball!

After days of forecast stress, organisers and helpers at Castle Cove were relieved but still slightly weather nervous as arriving visitors were greeted with gusts in the 20's for the first Sailing South West event at this club.

Today we hosted our first Sailing Southwest winter event along with our regular club racing.

Our eleven visitors were treated to our usual friendly hospitality and enjoyed some great racing. Thank you to all who came along and for your great feedback, we hope to see you again!
