Another disappointing turn out for the 3rd match in our junior match series with only four taking up the challenge. Three from Otley and one from Taddy, Wetherby juniors sadly absent. However, a calm sunny day saw the eager competitors rushing to their drawn pegs and within moments of the all in, fish were hitting the nets. F1’s dominated today’s fishing along with small roach, the skimmers and tench conspicuous by their absence…

In the end It was a close run match with ounces separating the top three weights

Archie was first with 4lb 12oz

Popcorn Baron, Jacob second with 4lb 9oz

Olley Third 4lb 1oz

Stanley bringing up the rear with a respectable 1lb 14oz from a difficult peg.

A great day was had by all and the smiles say it all.

Sunday 19th July is the penultimate match, please book on ASAP, we run these matches voluntarily and it’s disheartening to put all this effort in to get so little support. Use it or lose it!!

Record Turnout for Knaresborough v Wetherby Challenge Return Leg

A record-breaking field of 22 anglers turned out for the highly anticipated return leg of the Knaresborough v Wetherby challenge match. Competitors were spread across two ponds and three sections on a beautifully sunny but challenging day.

A problematic wind made presentation difficult, and bites proved incredibly hard to come by. As rumours spread during the match, it became clear that Pond 3’s residents were refusing to leave their lairs, while Pond 4 lived up to its reputation of switching off under heavy match pressure.

The scales presentation revealed just how close the contest was...

It was a disappointing turn out to the second match of our five match junior series with only four young anglers in attendance. The eagerly awaited draw completed and at one o’clock the all in is called.

It's a difficult match from the start with bites hard to come by but despite the intense heat, perseverance pays off and at a quarter past four the results are in.

The Pop Corn Baron Jacob finds his form and takes first place with 4lb 12oz, Nate second, Arran and Struan bringing up the rear with only an ounce between them.

Despite the low attendance and the heat wave every one put fish in the nets and had a great time.

Please support us and get your names down for the next match on Sunday 14th June.

The matches are suitable for all ages and abilities and are run in a very informal basis with the emphasis on an enjoyable days fishing at a fantastic venue.

WADAC v HAA
Club challenge match.
Martin House charity fundraiser.
17.5.26.

Fifteen anglers represented their respective clubs today - 8 from wadac and 7 from HAA. Wetherby would therefore drop their lowest weight from their total to keep things equitable.
All in was called in at 10. I didn’t get a bite in the first hour but Bob Crabtree was off to a flyer to my immediate left, netting two skimmers and an F1 in an early flurry. They were probably blinded by Bobs natty tie, and flat cap.
Rich, Rob, Dave and Tony were all catching plenty too.
I’ve no idea what was happening on pond 3, I couldn’t see that far.
The fishing was difficult for all, but some of us managed to do ok.
Fish were caught. A top kit was snapped. Kev fished the wrong peg ( apparently a 3 looks like a 5 ! ) and we raised some dosh for Martin House.
After several biteless hours ( the ponds were moody again ) time was finally called to put an end to the frustration.
Andy did the weigh in on both ponds and I tallied them:
Section 1.
1st: Dale 7lb 10oz.
2nd: Daz 7lb
Section 2.
1st: Rich 11lb 6oz
2nd: Robert 7lb 14oz.
Section 3 ( pond 3 ).
1st: Kev 3lb 14oz
2nd: Mike 2lb 15oz
The total weights were added.
Harrogate registered a team total of 29lb 14oz.
Wetherby tallied up at 35lb 9oz.
Wetherby drop 7oz to leave them with a 5lb 4oz lead and victory on the day, but the real winner was Martin House. We managed to raise £760 for the hospice and the brilliant work they do.
Another tough day on the ponds, but a lovely social affair between the two clubs. Another match fished in great spirit.
Thanks go to all who took part, all who have donated, Andy for doing the weigh in ( again ) and Bella for being a great assistant, and not eating any ducks, Steve for donating the raffle prize, Nick for his comedy walk, and the weather gods for holding off on the rain, and Bob for all his efforts on the fundraising front.
Next WADAC match is on 7.6.26.
