Somewhat surreal day at Tiverton today for the first round of the Summer Series.

I've got a bit of a love/hate relationship here. I struggle with the low grip nature of the track and have never had a car that I can say has worked really well. Not much change today!!!

I bought what I thought was a Yokomo SO2 to use as a low grip/wet car. As I was setting it up during the week, I found it was anything but, so I went with it regardless and set it up the best I could. Ok in the dry, but not enough pace to be where I wanted to be, and really struggled when the track was wet. Back end of the B was the best I could wring out of this beast today, it'll be up for sale tomorrow as it's not what I need.

Thanks to Dan and the Tiverton crew for a great track and a smooth meeting as always, definitely one of the trickiest layouts I've seen made trickier by the intermittent showers - thankfully nowhere near as bad as forecast.

Lessons learned, onwards, upwards and much to improve on next time!

A meeting that's tinged with a little sadness as this will be the last ever meeting at this venue 😥

First round of the BRCA South West Regional series at home track of Mendip RC Raceway.

First time out with the Yokomo SO3 having decided on a platform change. I wanted to try this to compare to the B7.

First round was decent with an 11. Small errors, but a good platform. Rounds 2 and 3 were awful, just poor driving on my part and too many unforced errors. With a bit of pressure on for Round 4, I drove a little conservative but enough for a 14. That would line me up B5 which I was really chuffed with.

I got lucky at the start of the B. The 3 in front got tangled just after the tabletop and left me a huge gap. Set off after Jon Wolfe, but he's just too good and I couldn't catch him. A couple of small errors, one which gifted Ollie 2nd with a lap to go and I'd end up 3rd.

I've got to thank the UK Yokomo guys for the setup help. I nailed a setup early and changed very little all day long. The car felt easy and safe to drive, I just lacked a little confidence to push it more.

So I've done a thing and changed brands.....

I'll be open and honest, I've been struggling with the B7 platform on pretty much every surface and in all conditions. That's despite lots of help which I'm deeply grateful for from a number of people in the Associated camp. They know who they are, thank you!

I wanted to give a different platform a try. Everything is heard about Yokomo has been positive, especially about the SO series cars. So I've bitten the bullet and got myself an SO3 for starters.

I'll leave you hanging slightly for the next update.....

Round 9 of the Winter Championship and on the decks again today.

Track started off very wet, thanks to all the guys who cleared the standing water and made it raceable. Even the sun made an appearance for most of the afternoon and we didn't freeze!

My Associated B7D was possibly the best it's been in wet conditions. Lots of work has been put in to this setup (thanks to those who have helped and guided). Still think there are subtle gains to be made ready for next time.

Qualified 4th behind the local Schumacher bruisers, happy with my pace all day, but just let down by some silly errors and the Final was ruined by two mistakes in a single lap. Overall pleased, much more so than the last two meetings.

May even go somewhere next weekend, but have brownie points to earn first

It's been a little damp down here in the South West. Thankfully Weston-super-Mare hasn't seen the extreme conditions that have battered the coast further south, but even so, the track greeted us on Sunday VERY wet. (Pics taken Saturday AM)

I'd made some major changes to my B7D since the last meeting, most of which worked until I discovered a self inflicted preparation error which cost me.

Qualified 5th, should have been 3rd had I not messed up my prep. Sadly, something failed in the final and I pulled the car off.

I was quite dejected after the last Mendip meeting. I wasn't comfortable with the car, but significant progress has been made with more to come. Looking forward to the next meeting on the 22nd now.

Sadly, only 3 more meetings left on this track 😥 so please come and use it before we really lose it.

Another trip across to COBRA for their club day

Running my Associated B7 again. Consistency was king today - I managed a 7 in every round - I should be really pleased with that, but I'm actually not. I just couldn't find the extra 2 or 3 tenths that would make that step upwards. Also not helped by others significantly cutting the track and not being penalised - sounds like sour grapes, and maybe it is considering it's a club day, but when it impacts you directly (it did), it kind of annoys me. Just need to remind myself it's just a club day and nothing serious.

Lined up 9th - should have been higher. Made a good start, but then decided to go on a scenic tour of track markers for 4 and a half minutes.

Setup in right place, but needs tweaking to find those extra 10ths and I need to drive less cautiously.

Great atmosphere all day and the COBRA guys ran a great meeting given they had to set up this morning rather than last night

Been a bit slack on race report updates. Sorry. So first one of 2026.

Friday 2nd January - little trip over to Avon RC again. Lessons learned from last trip, so this time took the full on wet car. Tried BB Greens on the rear = crap. Switched to Silver Mezzo and car was transformed and grip was out of this world.

Problem is, they wear rather quickly on that rubber surface, so if you've got loads to root out and steam / acetone off, a great place to do it!!

Really enjoyed my evening again and thanks to the team for creating a great little club.

Happy 2026.

A quick look back to 2025 racing. One to forget in the main. Various issues meant taking a step back from Regionals to deal with really critical personal issues and a hugely demanding and unsettling period with work.

Some bright embers near the end with progress last time out at Mendip.

Lessons learned - preparation is key. So I'm ready for COBRA on Sunday two days early. It's a miracle I tell thee 🙏🙏

Changes made to the B7 from TRAC which should improve the car.
