Westbury Ladies team was started just 10 years ago but from tiny acorns large oaks grow. They have won NC SW North 2 League twice, seen our players play at county level and had a lot of fun along the way. We welcome new players of all age and ability, no experience necessary and you can be at any level of fitness. We have a great squad with a real range of girls so if you'd like to come along and see what it's all about feel free to come along to training on a Wednesday at 7pm till 8.30pm.

FULL TIME | WESTBURY RFC 14–15 OLDFIELD OLD BOYS RFC

A close one at Knott Field.

Oldfield Old Boys RFC made the trip down for our second and final pre-season game, with just a single point separating the sides at full time.

Another valuable run-out for the squad, with plenty to take away as our preparations for the new season come to an end.

Thanks to Oldfield Old Boys RFC for making the trip, the referee for giving up their time, everyone who came down to support and every lad who pulled on the Westbury RFC shirt.

Next up, the league.

Bradford on Avon RFC come to Knott Field on Saturday 26th September as our 2026/27 season gets underway.

See you there. πŸ’šπŸ–€

AUGUST PLAYER DEVELOPMENT AWARD

Congratulations to Ben Huggett and Alfie Murden, our recipients of the August Player Development Award.

This monthly award recognises players who have shown outstanding commitment, attitude and development around the club.

Here’s what the Head Coach had to say:

On Ben:

β€œBen has continued his excellent performances from last season into pre-season training and is a key member of the squad. Always pushing the standards, not only of himself but also his teammates.”

On Alfie:

β€œAlfie has returned from injury and, with his versatility in the back line, is a great asset to the team.”

Well done lads, thoroughly deserved. Keep it going! πŸ’šπŸ–€

FULL TIME | MELKSHAM 28–29 WESTBURY

Pre-season starts with a win.

A short trip across to Melksham for our first run-out of the new season, and a close one sees us come away with a 29–28 victory.

A big thank you to Melksham RFC for hosting us, the referee for giving up their time, everyone who made the trip across to support us and, of course, every lad who pulled on the Westbury shirt.

Plenty more work to do, but good to be back out there.

PRE-SEASON DIARIES | SESSION 9

A shorter session this week, but the intensity went up.

We started by welcoming some new faces before splitting off – the forwards working on set pieces while the backs ran through their moves.

From there we came back together to run through our new pre-match contact warm-up, before finishing with game scenarios from all over the pitch. Attack, defence, different starting positions – reset and go again.

Then arguably the most important part of pre-season…

Burgers off the BBQ and a pint together after training, courtesy of the coach.

Because the work on the pitch is only part of it.

THE TEAM IS MADE ON & OFF THE PITCH.

FIXTURE UPDATE | NEW DATE πŸ“…

Our pre-season fixture against Oldfield Old Boys RFC has been rearranged and will now take place on Saturday 12th September.

That means our first run-out of the new season will be away to Warminster on Saturday 5th September, before we welcome Oldfield the following weekend.

Two important friendlies to get some game time in the legs before the league season gets underway on Saturday 26th September.

Not long now. πŸ‰

PRE-SEASON DIARIES | SESSION 8 πŸ’šπŸ–€

Taking it from the training ground to the pitch.

Session 8 saw us build on the work from the last few weeks, with the focus firmly on bringing our attacking and defensive shape together.

After some contact work, the forwards went into lineouts while the backs worked through their moves, before coming back together to attack and defend from set piece.

The big focus was getting into shape naturally across the whole pitch, working through the phases and making sure everyone knows their role rather than starting already set.

We finished with a structured game to put it all into practice.

Another good session. Another step forward.

RAISING THE STANDARD.

πŸ“– PRE-SEASON DIARIES | SESSION 7 πŸ’šπŸ–€

Another session down as we move one step closer to the start of the new season.

This week saw the squad continue building on the work from previous sessions, with the focus shifting towards putting our structures into practice:

πŸ‰ Forwards working on the scrum machine
⚑ Backs sharpening up their moves
πŸ”„ Attacking shape from set pieces
πŸ›‘οΈ Continuing to develop our defensive structure and getting 1, 2, 3 nailed
πŸ’₯ Contact work on the bags as a defensive line
πŸ“‹ Bringing it all together on the pitch with attack and defence from set piece

As pre-season progresses, the emphasis is increasingly on repetition and getting our shape right as a team. Building on each session, tightening up the details and getting ourselves ready for competitive rugby.

One session closer. β³πŸ‰
