Mersea Week 2026 - Overall

Running from 9th until 14th August, the 52nd annual Mersea Week saw an increased entry of 140 boats this year, making it one of, if not the largest regatta on the East Coast.

Thirsty Thursday of MERSEA WEEK.. As a commitee it was a 10 mile course for some, it should have been a simple few hours out, and a tack home towards the end but the sea breeze failed miserably, which was actually building through the starting sequence, some competitors were caught out by a tide gate, but the Smacks made it home in good time, OK a long day out on the water, but with clear skies and warm weather, what more could we ask? Some boats sailed across the line with loud music and sombrerows, the vibe out on the water and in both clubs is awesome.

Champagne sailing for 34 entries for the annual RNLI pursuit race, held on the wednesday during Mersea Week. An exciting concept where the quicker boats start last to "hunt down the pack" and if they sail better than their fellow competitors they will overtake them one at a time, but if the slower boats are sailed to their rating or better, well you just try and catch me!

Strider, a Nordic Folkboat skippered by Robin Dutton won the two hour race. The course was set by Race Officer Alan W Jones via the Thirslet buoy, followed by some around the the cans racing. Donation entry fees raised a good amount for ‘Just George’ our local lifeboat.

Martin Wade the West Mersea’ lifeboat Chairman presented the trophies.

MERSEA RACE WEEK Day 3. The privilege of being part of the race management team is that you get "the best seat in the house" sailing is not a spectators sport, but when boats line up for the start and yachts are within touching distance of the committee boat, its simply the best place to be.

The drive by the sailing committee has now produced just under 60 people wishing to sail and race, since the spring every Monday evening, our club boats have been fully booked, which inturn has encouraged members with their own boats to participate in giving newcomers experience out on the water.

Our monday evening came to a close last night with 9 yachts racing, the rules were... An experienced skipper with crew only from the training watts app group.

Basically our first "Rookie Race" it was a level playing field for everyone and the atmosphere in the bar at the prize giving was brilliant.
