Many grassroots sports clubs are powered by passionate individuals who go above and beyond to keep things running.
They organise fixtures, manage registrations, recruit players, update social media, arrange volunteers and often step in to solve problems at the last minute.
While having committed people is invaluable, there is a danger when too much responsibility sits with one person.
We’ve seen clubs where a single volunteer effectively becomes the club.
They hold all the knowledge, make all the decisions and carry most of the workload.
It might work for a while, but eventually it becomes unsustainable.
Whether through burnout, changing family commitments, a new job or simply wanting a break, every club needs to be prepared for the day when its key people step back.
Check out our blog post 'How to build a club that doesn’t depend on one person' so you can ensure this doesn't happen at your sports club.
