Many grassroots sports clubs are powered by passionate individuals who go above and beyond to keep things running.

They organise fixtures, manage registrations, recruit players, update social media, arrange volunteers and often step in to solve problems at the last minute.

While having committed people is invaluable, there is a danger when too much responsibility sits with one person.

We’ve seen clubs where a single volunteer effectively becomes the club.

They hold all the knowledge, make all the decisions and carry most of the workload.

It might work for a while, but eventually it becomes unsustainable.

Whether through burnout, changing family commitments, a new job or simply wanting a break, every club needs to be prepared for the day when its key people step back.

Check out our blog post 'How to build a club that doesn’t depend on one person' so you can ensure this doesn't happen at your sports club.

Most sports clubs would describe themselves as welcoming, but being welcoming and being truly inclusive are not always the same thing.

A welcoming club might say hello when someone arrives.

An inclusive club thinks carefully about whether people can access the opportunity in the first place, whether they feel comfortable when they get there, and whether they are likely to stay.

Inclusion is not just about opening the door.

It is about making sure people feel that they belong once they walk through it.

Another brilliant session last week as part of the and Small Business Programme.

This time, we explored what it really means to be an effective and inclusive employer.

Grateful for the opportunities this programme has given me, and excited to keep building a business where people feel valued and supported 💙

What really shapes whether girls stay confident, connected and involved in sport?

So often, the focus is placed on players, but in a recent blog post, we explore why parents are one of the biggest influences on girls’ long‑term participation.

From first impressions to confidence, communication and club culture, the role parents play is bigger than many clubs realise.

If you’re working to grow girls’ sport sustainably, this is a must‑read.

It’s easy to get caught up in numbers:

⚽️ How many teams do we have?
⚽️ How many girls have signed up?
⚽️ Can we enter another age group next season?

Those things matter, of course. But growth on paper doesn’t always equal long-term sustainability.
