🎉 CELEBRATING 48 YEARS IN WEST KIRBY 🎉

❓DID YOU KNOW❓

Today, on June 2nd, we celebrate 48 years to the day based in West Kirby! 🎂

Originally established in Ashton-in-Makerfield (Wigan) in 1963, Mavlow made the move to West Kirby in 1978 due to family relocation, and we’ve been here ever since. We are proudly one of the longest running dance schools on the Wirral, with an excellent reputation, based on friendliness, we treat all children as equals, consistent high marks in examinations, a successful competition team, great shows, and the pathway to the West End for those who choose to pursue it.

We’ve got something for everyone here at Mavlow School of Dance, offering the highest technical training following the RAD Ballet syllabus, and ISTD Tap & Modern Jazz. Many of our students are now second generation, their parents having attended Mavlow as children themselves, and remembering the great times they had here at Mavlow School of Dance, have now brought their own children to experience those same happy feelings.

🚨REMINDER🚨

Afternoon everyone just a reminder that we remain open this week, if you are not away please ensure your children are here for their classes, especially as some classes have exams in just 5 WEEKS TIME! And all Ballet Classes will be taking their exams NEXT TERM (usually around November time, dates TBC) so please make sure your children are here please. Which brings us onto our next point;

☀️🥵 HOT WEATHER ALERT🥵☀️

As you are all aware, we are currently experiencing our first heat wave of the year. As such, children in Grade 2 Tap & Modern and higher who usually wear tights for class, obviously this week in this weather we would like you to wear shorts please (tight fitting eg cycle shorts, Nike pro etc) over your leotard, so it will be leotard and shorts. Please wear socks as shoes will rub in this heat. It is still scheduled to be hot at the end of the week so we will be operating the same policy as we did for Ballet Classes last week which is Leotard, and BALLET SOCKS only. Hair up in a bun please (which should be every week anyway thank you!).

All students are also to bring a bottle of water with them please. Younger classes will keep drinks in their bags in the waiting room.

Thank You 🙂

🚨☀️ HOT WEATHER ALERT ☀️🚨

Morning everyone, due to this weekends hot weather, cross overs will not be allowed to be worn in class, this is a health & safety issue as children will overheat too quickly if they are wearing cross overs (which are really meant for winter only)

Paula would also like to remind everyone that if students opt to not wear Ballet Tights due to the hot weather, they MUST wear PINK BALLET SOCKS ONLY. If you don’t have any Ballet Socks, Cain of Heswall sell them and are open during the day. Please refer to our Uniform Page on the website for any other queries.

We’d also like to remind you that we remain open next week (closed on Monday for Bank Holiday of course), if you are not away please ensure that your children attend their classes, especially if they have exams this term, which are only 6 weeks away.

Thank You 🙂

On March 22nd, we had our first ISTD () Exam Session of the Year, and just as we started the new term the certificates arrived and we were able to give them out to those who attended their first lesson of term (not everyone was there) in Primary Tap, Grade 3 Tap & Grade 1 Tap 🙂

Congratulations everyone 🎉

🆕 NEW TERM BEGINS 🆕

Hello everyone! Just a reminder that the new term begins tonight. It’s another busy one as we have yet another exam session coming up, confirmed date Sunday 5th July 2026, please put in your diaries and keep it free! There’s been some updates to the website this weekend including latest news, new updated fees, and a recap of the ADA Easter Festival on the Competitions page so please head to the website and check that all out.

We’ve also just had a phone call this afternoon from Cain of Heswall informing us that the new RAD Primary Ballet Leotard is in stock, if you aren’t sure what to get or what this means please speak to Paula and she’ll point you in the right direction.

We have also received the Certificates and Reports from the March Exams, and these will be given out in classes this week, along with results for those children who didn’t attend at the end of last term and missed getting them.

Let’s have a great term everyone! 😀

⭐️ WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON ADA EASTER FESTIVAL RECAP ⭐️

A look at how Wednesday afternoon went for us;

Inter Novice Greek: Olivia, Matilda
Inter Open Greek: Lizzie 2nd 🥈
Junior Novice Character: Sophia, Beatrix
Senior Novice Greek: Mia 3rd 🥉
Senior Open Greek: Freya

The girls continue to work very hard against a very high standard of competition and we couldn’t be more proud 😊

We must also give a massive shout out and thanks to Formby School of Dancing and Performing Arts, who came to our rescue and bailed us out when we had a costume crisis ahead of the Senior Greek sections, loaning us a costume that was actually almost completely identical to the one we didn’t have, in size, colour and style, and meant that we were still able to compete. THANK YOU 🙏🥰

As much as competitions are about “competing” and “winning medals”, it’s actually so much more than that. It’s the people you meet, the friends you make, the relationships you build, creating strong connections, support, camaraderie, and most importantly, respect. When we all work together, competitions are so exciting and create memories to last a lifetime 🥹

2 Days down, 2 to go 🎭
