SENIORS HUGE WIN IN HARD FOUGHT MATCH VS GREENBURN!
Delighted to report that our seniors team notched up our first away win of the season at Greenburn!
Greenburn were an excellent opponent, it was a hard-fought performance from the team. Played for the majority of the time in heavy, unrelenting rain, our seniors got a spectacular 3-2 win. It’s safe to say the players were at least half a stone heavier by the end of the match from the amount of water absorbed!
Talk about nail-biting stuff! Four out of the five matches went down to the 18th green, with the final game determining the result:
🏌️Billy Saunders & Lindsay Steele- Won 4&2: Got off to a flying start and kept their momentum going despite having to concede 11 shots. A well-deserved, dominant win that was never in doubt!
🏌️Jim Davidson & Ronnie Stuart- Won 1up :Behind for most of the game but stayed within striking distance. They showed rock-solid composure down the last hole to secure a massive point.
🏌️Willie Heeps & Patrick McGhie- Halved match: An exciting battle. Leading 1up down the last, they had to settle for a half after their opponents sank an unbelievable birdie on the 18th (though Willie did the exact same to them on the 17th!).
🏌️Michael Curran & Alistair Henderson- Lost 1down: All square at the 17th, the boys fought hard but just faltered on the last to a par from former Harburn member, Robert Peebles.
🏌️Alec Bathgate & Brian Rooney- Halved match: The Comeback of the Day! Sitting 3 down with 3 to go, it looked down and out. But on the 16th, an inspirational 8-iron followed by a clutch, hole-winning putt from club captain Brian Rooney sparked the fightback. They took all three of the final holes to sn**ch a half and secure our overall team victory!
An away win in this league is worth its weight in gold. This result definitely puts Harburn in the mix.
A massive well done to the entire squad and a huge thank you to Dougie Masterton, Jim Stewart, and Davy Russell who turned out to support their teammates in absolutely atrocious conditions.
Next Thursday, it’s a home game against Linlithgow, recent two-time league champions and Lothians senior champions. The weather promises to be better than yesterday so come out and cheer the boys on!
