Floodwater barbel fishing on a low stocked Surrey river didn’t produce much apart from a couple of small chub.
These conditions can be highly rewarding yet very frustrating for the river angler, but are usually the best for specimen Barbel and Roach.
Putting the legwork in and travelling light usually produce the goods if you can find them!.
I’ll be back for a few more session this week.

Great session today with Dan and Liam, couple of good 3s for Dan with one just under for me,and a great first ever lure caught 2 for Liam. Nineseventungsten Texas rigged slim shadys doing the business again!.

Tough day on a rising river Kennet but rewarded on last light with a nice 2lb Perch, my only bite in 9 hours fishing!.
Lovely day though and great to have a red kite for company for the majority of the day.
It’s not just about the catching thank god!.

Welcome to the homepage for Steve Cousins Angling. Im providing a professional guiding service to teach existing or potential new anglers the tactics and techniques required for the pursuit of specimen fish with an emphasis on the southern river systems, although im happy to do sessions on Lakes and canals as well.
My aim is to teach you the methods required to target specific species and enable you to incorporate these into your own angling an enable you your own knowledge you can take into your own future angling.
As an angler of over 40 years I have vast experience of coarse angling on Rivers, lakes and Canals all over the Uk, as well as abroad.
As a genuine allrounder my specialist list includes many double figure Barbel from the Kennet, Stour and Avon, Roach to just under 3lb, Chub to 6-10 and numerous 4lb Perch from the Kennet and Thames, as well as double figure Tench and numerous 30lb plus carp including a record nudging Crucian carp of 4lb.13.

Each session can be tailored to your own requirements by having a initial chat to determine your objectives from the day in advance,but as an outline brief the structure of the days will be as follows:

1) An introduction to Watercraft.
2) Method instruction around float fishing or ledgering for Barbel, Chub, Perch and Roach.
3)Lure fishing for Perch.

I can further tailor the days around specific rivers and species if required.

As many of you will know, mental well-being is now something we all speak about, especially those who suffered during lockdown and during challenging times.

Angling is a great way to spend a few hours and get yourself away from all of life's day to day stresses and will allow you to not only share a few funny stories with me and catch a few fish, but you will see a side to the English countryside that will leave fond memories for the future.

All tackle will be provided for a days angling if required and bait requirements can be discussed before hand.
Corporate and team building events also available on request.
