What do we say? En Garde, Sister!

Celebrating with the success of our new ladies who joined us this week at En Garde, Sister at RAF Cosford. Coach put them through their paces in all 3 weapons, showcasing their skill and dedication to learning these brand new weapon skills. We also learned more about Beth's incredible career as a team manager, world class fencer, and not to mention one of the UK's top international coaches and an advocate for women's fencing.

It has been our pleasure to have her with us for and the Novice Cup and helping us inspire the next generation of RAF fencers! Congratulations to all who took part this week!

En Garde, Sister! Squad Spotlight - meet Elsa!

Elsa is an RAF Engineering Officer currently serving with 84 Squadron on the Puma force. She is also the RAF Fencing Union's most decorated fencer and reigning UK Armed Forces Master Swordswoman - the top female fencer in the entire military!

Having started fencing at the age of 8, Elsa has represented GB at 12 international championships before joining the RAF. She has since continued her competitive career in the military to become the 9-time RAF and UK Armed Forces Champion-At-Arms, 2-time Sovereign's Champion, and 2-time and reigning Master Swordswoman.

Despite her many accolades, Elsa's most memorable highlight is competing at the 100th anniversary of the Inter-Services Championships (the biggest event in the military sporting calendar) at the prestigious Honourable Artillery Company and celebrating the event with a black tie ball with her friends and colleagues from across the Services.

En Garde, Sister! Meet the team:

Join Beth Cranston-Selby at “En Garde, Sister!” on 6th March 2025 at RAF Cosford as she showcases women’s fencing, and you can try it out too!

Beth has been a sabre fencer for over 25 years and has accrued several accolades including Veteran World team and individual medallist, European Fencer of the Year, multiple Commonwealth, European and National titles.

As a coach and official, Beth was awarded Online Coach of the Year in 2022 and is the only British coach to have graduated from 2 International Coach Academies for sabre and epee. She has also led the England Fencing Team to 9 victories at 5 Nations and 2 Commonwealth Championships as team manager.

En Garde, Sister!

RAFFU are pleased to announce our first women’s fencing camp, En Garde, Sister! 🤺

This will be an introduction to fencing event to showcase women’s fencing in the military and is open to all female military personnel, UAS and Civil Service colleagues.

The event will be held on Thursday 6th March 2025 at RAF Cosford, and all are welcome to stay and join us for the RAF Novice Cup which will follow on 7-9th March. The Novice Cup is open to all men and women beginners and Novices.

As it comes to the close of 2024, I would like to thank you all for you fencing endeavours over the last year; and for those who’s jobs and life got in the way we look forward to seeing you back at competitions in 2025.

I’ve attached a small update on our activities over the last year and upcoming competition dates for 2025.
