We’re putting on a Family Day at Wembury Cricket Club and we’d love to see the whole village up there!

Tonight sees one of our first Wembury Grasshoppers Ladies softball cricket matches, as we welcome Plymstock Ladies CC to Wembury. 🏏

It’s great to see the women’s side getting it's first game this season, and we’d love to get a good crowd up to support the girls and enjoy another summer evening at the club.

This Friday we welcome **Wolferstans Solicitors** — always a really enjoyable fixture, with some good quality cricket and a great atmosphere.

🏏 THE CRICKET KEEPS ON COMING! ☀️🍻

The heatwave is still with us and the Grasshoppers are back in action this Sunday, welcoming Philanthropists CC to Wembury for an afternoon of village cricket.

And really, what else would you rather be doing on a sunny Sunday afternoon? Packing boxes? Moving house? Mowing the lawn? Tackling that list of weekend jobs? 📦😴

We’ve heard plenty of excuses for missing a game over the years, but “packing boxes” is a new one on us. 📦😂

Forget the chores for a few hours. Find a spot under the trees, grab a cold drink and enjoy the heatwave while it lasts. ☀️🍺🏏

🏏 WHAT A WIN FOR THE GRASSHOPPERS! 🦗

A memorable Friday night at Wembury as the Grasshoppers came away with a brilliant 87-run victory over local neighbours Ermington.

Batting first, the Grasshoppers put 114 on the board. Paul Elsey Top-scored with 26, while Phil Symons & Martin Sanders added an important 25.

This was a great comeback for Paul Elsey after a long injury lay-off, marked in style by a massive six 💥 and a catch in the field on his return. Great to have him back!

Then came a quite remarkable bowling and fielding performance.

Ermington were dismissed for just 27 runs in 12 overs. Kieran Hall led the way with 4 wickets for just 6 runs from his 3 overs, with Neil Bellamy claiming 3 wickets. Martin Sanders followed up his 25 with the bat by taking 1 wicket for only 4 runs from his 3 overs — a superbly economical spell.

The bowlers were backed up by a fantastic effort in the field — two superb acrobatic catches from Haydn White, some aggressive, committed fielding from John Acres, and excellent field positioning from captain Jamie Wood as the Grasshoppers kept the pressure firmly on.

Longstanding Wembury groundsman and scorer Ron said afterwards that he couldn’t remember ever seeing a side dismissed for such a low score at Wembury — and he’s seen plenty of cricket here over the years!
