Full Results for the Inaugural John Dromgool Memorial Singles. Bradley Evans claiming the title with a superb run of form throughout. Well played Brad🏆
A number of excellent games throughout. Well done to some of the Albion members who produced some noteworthy performances, particularly Bob Barker who enjoyed a run to quarter finals with victories over Chris Taylor(in one of the picks of the first round to 19) and Phil Tommy(11).
Frances Corbishley produced a surprise victory over Mike Fielder in Rd 1 never relinquishing her 2 start to run out comfortably to 13. However Frances would then run into eventual winner Brad in the last 16.
Richard Evans also completed a close 21-19 success over Paul Johnson(Wem BC) in a topsy-turvy first round affair coming from 19-18 down at the death with 3 singles to claim the win.
Wem USC pair George Williams and Phil Bryan enjoyed a first round cracker with George prevailing 21-19, drawing a double at 19 across in the last end.
Premier league players Luke Grocott and George would both fall victim to an inspired Brad in the quarters and semi respectively after negotiating the earlier rounds in the bottom half of the draw. George claimed wins over Wayd Pawlowski Rd 2(14), and Adrian Bromfield Quarter Final(9) and Luke beating Myles Fisher Rd 1 (12) and Richard Evans Rd 2(13)
In the top half of the draw Jason Stevens and Ben Grocott made their way to the quarter finals where Ben came from 9-2 down to win 17 and set up a semi final with Steve Hagyard.
Steve had come through 3 gruelling wins to 16, against Pete Madden, Dave Dawson and Bob Barker before possibly running out of steam in the semi with Ben who won to 13.
Brad's winning run had started with a 21-12 success over Sam Hagyard which would prove his closest match in a day where he only dropped 44 chalks in 5 games, playing a variety of marks superbly from start to finish on the day.
Ben had also led particularly well on some longer marks to win through to the showpiece match and at 9-7 up in the final would have fancied his chances of landing the first prize, however a run of 4 2s in 5 ends meant Brad was not to he denied winning to 10.🏅🥇🏆

Thanks Again All a brilliant day and hopefully the first of many years of cooperation and community bowling between our 3 clubs in Wem🤞. We hope to see as many of you as possible next year at Wem Bowling Club😊

Well done to all who took part today in the inaugural John Dromgool Memorial Singles Competition.
Brad Evans was our worthy winner defeating Ben Grocott 21-10 in the final after coming through a strong section of the draw beating Luke Grocott(10) in the quarter final and George Williams(6) in the semi final before the final.

A lovely afternoon☀️☀️ for the first in house competition of the season Albion Inn Cup saw Keith Evanson win against Eddie Brookes in the final 21-17 after a round robin robin group stage. We had a group of 5 and a group of 4.(15 ends per game) With the top of each going on to contest the final

Thanks to all 9 who played not a bad attendance all things considered.
Group 1
Keith Evanson 6 pts
Gina Brookes 5 pts
Francis Corbishley 5 pts
Martin Corbishley 2 pts
Aaron Wyatt 2 pts

Group 2
Eddie Brookes 6 pts
Ron Johnson 4 pts
Barbara Clorley 1 pt
Nobby Johnston 1 pt

Well done to Keith who came through his group despite losing the first game to Gina 12-6 he bounced bank with 3 good wins(15-2 Francis, 22-3 Aaron and a crucial come from behind 12-7 win over Martin) to wrack up 6 pts and and a very healthy +31 pt difference. That ultimately proved unassailable after Gina lost narrowly 11-10 to Martin in her 2nd game, and despite a win against Aaron 12-8. A draw against Francis(10-10) saw her finish on 5pts with +9. Francis also won 2 games(17-6 against Aaron and 12-11 over Martin) and drew 1 to finish on 5pts but a 15-2 defeat to Keith left her with -1 pt difference.
Martin had a mixed group starting with a 14-7 loss to Aaron but bounced back with the win over Gina to stay in the hunt. However a loss in the husband and wife clash with Francis all but ended his chance. Despite this he had Keith on the wrack at 6-2 up after 7 ends and a win would have seen Gina make the final but Keith turned the game around in the last 8 ends to win 12-7. Well done to Aaron who managed his first win in a competitive game on the afternoon to claim 2 pts in Group 1. Onwards and upwards young man👍

Group 2 saw Eddie prevail with 3 wins 12-8 over Nobby, 16-7 against Barbara and a virtual semi final against Ron 15-5 in the group decider. Ron had won 15-9 against Barbara before a 17-6 success over Nobby meaning a draw would have seen him into the final. But Eddie's win meant the calculators weren't required. Barbara and Nobby played out a 10-10 draw in the last game for a point a piece.

In the final(full game to 21) Eddie went into a 7-2 and 9-6 lead before Keith took charge with a run of 10 points from the next 11 to go 16-10 up. Eddie pulled back to 13 before 2 twos saw Keith to the brink of victory and despite a rally of 4 chalks from Eddie, Keith got over the line with last wood in the next end for the Trophy🏆

Excellent result away at Ash last night in the Whitchurch League 185-156. Great team performance, but especially both our Karls who share the sweep both winning to 8. Hope this is the beginning of a successful winning run. Captain's away next week, but Ken steps in and the team is already published for a home fixture where the Albion entertains Whixall A.

Inaugural bowls competition in memory of John Dromgool(Sunday 16th July) @ Wem Albion.

Although John was a life member of the Albion the aim is to try and run this competition annually between the 3 bowling clubs in Wem as to benefit all 3 in someway as John was an (adopted)Wemian through and through, very passionate about the town and loved his bowls.
