The Welwyn Warriors Lacrosse Club was established as a junior lacrosse development Club in 1998, on the back of lacrosse development work that was commenced in local Welwyn Garden City primary schools. From that start the Club has grown to run curriculum sessions, lunch time clubs and after school clubs at Primary Schools across the District; run taster sessions in secondary schools in the Distric
t; has three senior men's teams, with the first team playing in the Premier Division of the Southern Men's Lacrosse League; has a women's team playing in the South of England women's league; and have junior teams at the Under 12 and Under 14 level. The Club also continues its lacrosse development work through other avenues such as coaching and assisting with the development of the University of Hertfordshire’s lacrosse teams, running outreach programmes in Hemel Hempstead, Tring, Hertford and St Albans, and developing links with European Clubs and associations to support and develop lacrosse internationally. Club contacts reside in (but are not limited to) Germany, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Slovenia, France, Spain, Canada, America, New Zealand, and Finland. The Club this year is attempting to establish a County based youth league at the Under 12 and Under 14 level to continue the development of lacrosse in Hertfordshire County and give young players of all abilities the opportunity for match play. On behalf of the English Lacrosse Association the Club also coordinates the town based heats of the National Pop Lacrosse Competition, which has become one of the biggest primary school sporting events of the year. The Welwyn Lacrosse Club has achieved Club Mark status and is fortunate to have a base of enthusiastic volunteers who support the Club’s activities. However, we now employ two full time Local Development Officers to run the school and club activities, which have become an essential building block of lacrosse in the District.
