Hillside Eventing 'Sarah Roberts-Tomkins' Competition, schooling & producing. Experience To CCI3* aims 4*. seeking owners to join our small f I train & compete adv/med dressage and regular out BS

my name is sarah (Roberts) Tomkins, i have many years of experience starting on breaking yards at 14years old and worked for Andrew Heffernan and Dave Quigley, i then worked for Ran Arbel for 3yrs as head girl producing top quality young horses and after that went to Westpoint stud to learn AI in the summer and breaking and producing young stock in the winter. after having my daughter i started wo

rking from home doing freelance riding and teaching and progressed to having more horses in at home for schooling, sales and competition and i still love every minute of it. i have competed up to CCI 3*L/ Advanced AND WOULD REALLY LIKE TO PROGRESS FURTHER. I am a holder of the prestigious pc 'A' test and pride myself in working with my horses professionally and in complete harmony, treating each horse to its own, I have found myself taking on many problem horses over the years all of which have settled very well in our environment and made complete turn arounds in their training.

I would be lying if I said I was busy today, it’s been a bare minimum kinda day after a saturday at Oxstalls Cross Country British eventing, it’s a bit of a drive but well worth it and the courses were fabulous with a bit of everything to test the horses.

Bill and Judy’s Arkan Jack did not disappoint, finally shedding the pounds so I could get the dressage saddle back on which helped, followed by a super double clear to finish 8th in a very professional feild.

Kimberley and Gus took on their second 100 and came home with a double clear which is smashing and finished 11th

Mary Moberly’s Mosstown Luna surprised us yet again, chillington wasn’t a fluke and we even improved our performance with a cracking double clear in the 80, it hasn’t been an easy winter so this has been very rewarding for the team around her. We should have been 6th but unfortunately I wore a watch which I never do at this level and some how managed to get time faults over thinking it 🫣 so finished just outside the top 10

Unfortunately the good vibes crashed down when Millie and Ellie finished before they even started, I’m not finding blame but some Adults really need to have thought in their comments to young riders, causing unnecessary tension whilst sat on a young mare apparently doesn’t help any situation, Ellie has been nothing more than a confidence boost to millie but yesterday that was not the case and they didn’t even make it into their test. The stewards were so lovely to mils and I can’t thank them enough for that. It’s done and it’s over no we will move forward to hopefully resolve the problem going forward

Many thanks to sponsors for all your help with the horses

Busy few days and a busy week ahead,
Friday Raff and I had a lesson with Rhiannon, he was fresh but still such fun playing with his laterals, I could train every day.
Saturday Southview BS with Quickie and Jack, frustrating days of 4 flt itus but boys are stepping up so it’s all good I just need to get to the other side of this pole habit
Sunday we have been to Radfords BD with Raff, much calmer day in the sunshine, again not quite a clear round but scores good enough for area qualifications so I’ll take that inc a silver win

Little clip of Jack at Southview, my best bit obviously 🤣🤣

Chillington Hall, so grateful to have one local ish event still on the calendar and nice to see everybody. Busy weekend for Hillside

Saturday Bill and Judy’s Jack and I went for the 100 and took Kimberley and Gus along for Kim’s first BE100
Jack tense dressage and 2 poles (first time on grass this season) but easily popped around the xc to finish in the top 10 again.
Kimberley also had a spooky dressage but rode a good SJ for 1 pesky pole and a good clr xc picking up a few time to be just outside the top 10, super pleased for them.

Sunday millie took Ellie for another go after a couple of quick plays around Radfords in the week, dressage still needs work but fab clear show jumping and nearly completed the xc, you’ve never seen a team so happy to see her get over the first 4 fences 🤣 huge improvement

I rode Anna Pryce Garthfach yogi bear in 90 for what we thought was a pb dressage but unfortunately not the judges fav for 31
Pesky pole show jumping and stormed around the xc perfect

Last up was Mary Moberly’s Mosstown Luna in the 80, wasn’t confident with our prep and had little idea as to what she would think to an event but very surprised with a 33 dr a nice show jumping just toe tapping on 2 but breezed the xc so Lunas team were all ecstatic given the run up to this.

Holly and quest also joined in doing the 90 and jumped a super double clear unfortunately added some flower jumping into the dressage but again Hollys prep has been slow having opened the cafe so a super start for them.

Huge thanks to sponsors keeping all the horses in great shape

Bill and Judy’s Jack cruised around Solihull BE FOD for 4th place
6months off over winter and some extra weight to get off him and he’s back out. Top job by BEDE events, some good alterations to the course and very good efforts on the ground.
Kim also achieved her first BE rosette today which was fabulous and thank you for your help aswell.
Millie made the outing with Els first time on grass for Ellie, promising dressage and a fabulous clear SJ just needed to look at all the xc fences first but to be expected with our lack of training on her own but that’s inexperienced horses and they have a long way to go but remain positive.
On to chillington

What a week we have just had, started with 2 successful sales to the first viewings of the ponies to such lovely homes and fab little 8yo jockeys

Friday lunch we trucked to for our first ever stay away Bs show but it was needed for various reasons- Quickie has had a very slow start to his education first my shoulder when he was first broken then I had the 2 children, brought him back as a 7yo and had a good summer training and getting our self’s going together for him to then break his pedal bone, he had 10months off more because I wanted to make sure he had more time than needed and came back before Christmas but it’s so hard to get the work in because I have to put payers first which means Qu**ky barely gets the attention he needs so he’s done 5 shows jumping 85 and 90 and somewhat spaced out so this weekend was about really finding what’s in the tank and what we are working towards. I don’t think we actually jumped a clear with 4 flts in his 90 and 95 and 1m but his technique has really improved and I have come out grinning like a Cheshire Cat each time, he even finished with a 105 memorial cup class and no it wasn’t great 2 poles and a stop because he’s glaring at something (shadows we think) and scorching heat and mental exhaustion I should imagine but the actual fences felt fab and I’m mega excited for what we can get up to if I just commit and prioritize more time to my boy, it has been so good to spend time with my homebred properly.

Millie’s mission was consistency with Ellie and she was outstanding for the first two days but found the heat and 3 days to much yesterday but that shouldn’t take away just how awesome she was being placed with a few clear rounds and stepping up to 95s which is a huge achievement from just 6weeks ago.

Dukey boy finished Millie’s weeknd with her first 105 in 2years with a clear and place and unreal clear round around a very up to height course.

Can not wait for the next one, we are hooked
Horses and friends all weekend thank you to the girls for all your help, laughs and company xx

Owner shares available to come along and enjoy relaxing days out watching Raff dance 🕺

Last night I advertised Raff again not because I want to but because the lorry & the yard beeds needs maintenance and such as life I need these to keep everything going and I need finances to keep it on the road but this morning I headed out with a friend for a lesson with Rhiannon and the entire ride made me emotional, the development in this horse, the natural ability he has and the high that I get from riding him is surreal and I love it and want more and more, he really is a horse of a life time even if he is taking me on a different journey.

So…
is there anybody out there who loves dressage, loves watching and wants to be part of that journey? In desperation to keep him I am looking for someone to buy a 25% share with no livery costs but maybe contributions towards competitions to be a shared owner and come along with me to training and shows who will love being on the floor watching as much as I love being in the saddle. I am sociable and enthusiastic whilst Raff is a dream boat to handle and cuddle so days out are more than enjoyable.
If you know of anybody you think would love to join our journey up the levels of dressage then please show them this post.

In today’s lesson we are working on the half pass, Raff is scoring 70% elementary and just needs a couple more scores to his record for summer qualifications having recently been to the winter Nationals. He is ready for medium and already has a change so I am positive that advanced medium will be on the list very soon.

Please share with those who may be interested

Regards
Sarah
