Happy Monday!

It's fair to say 'summer' is pretty much here. It's the summer solstice this weekend, alot of you (and me!) have already starting taking your summer holidays, the shorts are out, my hanging baskets are up... 🌞

Often people want to 'get fit for summer' or get 'beach body ready'. While I always say there is no such thing as a 'beach body', I DO feel so much better when I know I've been eating well and getting my movement in. It's not too late to start! Doing pilates (or any other kind of exercise) will mean you see the benefits develop gradually over time - but a lot of clients say they feel less tight and achy and like they are moving more freely after a class. One session often lifts my mood and sets me up for the day.

We have five weeks until summer holidays which is plenty of time to make a great start. This week will mostly be about magic circles which are quite fun and bring in a little more upper body work.

Stylish, aesthetic pilates studios are lovely BUT .... shout out to the village hall crew building real communities in these real spaces 🤩

I've seen the above trend on Instagram and I actually love it - teachers proudly showing off their classes in community halls, schools and churches, carting their equipment around from venue to venue in their car.

I've also seen a lot of absolutely beautiful studios with long, arched mirrors, fresh white walls and stylish lighting.

Both types of space are actually perfect for practicing pilates - because you can do pilates anywhere with enough room to roll out your mat 👌

Here's a list of what else you don't need:

Expensive branded clothing
A 'pilates body'
To look picture perfect for class
To be able to do everything
To be flexible
A matcha based drink

And here's what you do need:

A body
A comfortable mat
Comfy clothes you can move in

Happy Monday!

I hope everyone had a good weekend. I've been gardening, running and crafting with my boys. I'm now ready for another fun week of movement with you all :)

We have 6 weeks of classes left until we take a break for the school summer holidays 🌞 it's a great time to come along and have a go at pilates, especially if you have never done it before, as classes can tend to be a bit quieter at this time of year as people start having their holidays.

I am looking forward to seeing all of your lovely faces 😊

If your only goal is to keep turning up?

That is a valid and admirable goal 👏

Often people have goals of getting stronger, faster, better. Progress in a certain sport. Get a PB. Master an exercise. Change their body. Lift a certain amount.

I am a big advocate of striving for progress and moving forward. I love to see my clients progress and I am usually working towards something for myself too.

But let's not forget that showing up consistently, week on week, is an achievement in itself. So if turning up and doing the thing is 'all' you are doing? You're actually doing pretty well 💪

Happy Monday!

I am back after a lovely couple of weeks off. This last week has been half term and so I've been with my boys and the week before that we were on holiday in Turkey. I've had a great time with lots of running, relaxing, reading, pilates, swimming and gardening - all my favourite things! I'm now ready to get back to classes for this final 7 week block until we break up for the summer holidays 🌞

Happy Monday!

Hope everyone had a great Banko weekend! Mine consisted of gardening, some time in the park, some walks and a family meal 😋 here is me and my boys after they got another Junior Park Run i Newton under their belts. Not sure why my feet look so huge in this photo! 🤣

Happy Monday!

I have loved seeing lots of people I know in yesterday's London Marathon and hearing about their experiences, as well as those running a couple of other marathons, namely Manchester and Stratford-upon-Avon. A couple of weeks ago one of my clients did the She Ultra and a few weeks before that a few people I know did the local Castle to Castle Ultra. It seems everywhere I look I am surrounded by people making wonderful running achievements which is amazing!

Yesterday my family running team and I did the Wrexham 10k, and my sons, including my four year old who recently learned to ride his pedal bike, tried out the new downhill bike track in Llanfyllin. So, not marathons, but more great achievements for us all to be proud of.

A huge well done to you if:

You ran a marathon this weekend (or this year!)
You did any sort of run.
You did any sort of movement at all.

I am super impressed by all you marathon runners but it doesn't have to be a marathon to count, to be inspiring and to be worthy of pride. There are literally thousands of ways to show up for yourself and move 😀

It Does. Not. Matter.
At all.

The dances are fun and we have different steps and upper body movements to make it interesting and give your brain a bit of a challenge. And when you do master the steps? It feels great! But ultimately, the point is just to get you moving. Whether you're stepping to the left or the right, moving with the beat or on your own beat - this is just non-important fluff. If you have:

Increased your heart rate
Moved
Enjoyed it

You've achieved it 👏

When I started my journey into teaching fitness classes at age 21 I first qualified in Exercise to Music - essentially aerobics. And Dance Fit is basically the same thing - just a bit more, well, dancey. The same concept applied back then - it doesn't actually matter if your grapevines went the wrong way or your box steps were pear shaped - it was just a way of planning a class that would get large muscle groups moving rhythmically and continuously for a period of time to provide an aerobic workout.

I do not have a dance background.
I often make mistakes.
I don't even always make it look that pretty 😅

Does it matter? Nope.

Can I lead you to have fun, move your body and leave feeling better than when you arrived?
Yes I can 💃

Can you do a Dance Fit class?
Yes you absolutely can 💪
