Opening night delight
Welshpool premier league darts kicked off it's 2026 campaign on Friday night and it started off with a repeat of last year's final , Kacey Jones vs Jamie Kynaston !
Kacey Jones took down Jamie 4-1 to start off his title defence with authority whilst claiming another win over Jamie Cater this time 4-0. Cater managed to scrape a draw in his other game of the night against debutant Jack Price. Jamie Kynaston also got himself a win over Jon Gamble 4-0 who is also another debutant this year who managed to fight back from 3-1 and claim a draw against Dan Hosiene .
Hoisene sits on 3 points after claiming a win over Rhys Butler earlier in the night , with Butler unfortunately tasting defeat again against Cameron Williams 4-0. Williams also went two from two with a win over youngster Alex Howard 4-1. Oscar Hyland managed to claim a draw on debut against Rob Robin Shingler but then come up against Dan Morgan who was in fine form on the night who put a brilliant display of scoring against Neil Astley winning 4-0.
Gareth Ashley hit the highest average on the night with a 89.73 and beating Dave Hancle Faded Rix 4-0. Ewan Jones claimed victory over Gary Jones with a solid display to get himself off to a good start. Steve Price also got his campaign off to a wining start with a 4-1 won over Mitch Butler.
Play resumes again this Friday at 7:30pm with some tasty
fixtures in the pipeline ready for the second night of action.
Also congratulations to Welshpool & District Darts League on their victory over Newtown on Saturday in what I can only describe as an unbelievable first Montgomeryshire cup day.
